Jack It Up and rest on chassis

I have never done it so need some advise.

Are there any points on the chassis where it is safe to use axle stands to support the weight of Disco 1?

I need some good ground clearance to change oil filter in auto transmission.

Also can I put a hydraulic trolley jack under the axle differential and lift it safely up?

any part of the chassis should be ok to place axel stands and yes you can jack it up under the axel but you will need a very high lift to get the chassis higher.

I would jack it under the chassis at the sides towards the front then put some H/Duty stands under and dont forget to chock the wheels.

Or you could drive it onto a couple of railway sleepers.

You'd be easier either driving onto car ramps or just jack the front axle up and put stands under it. Problem with putting stands under the chassis is they don't grip anything so the car could slide off them.

A friend of a friend was recently crushed under a discovery 1 which he had jacked up and resting on big wooden blocks on the chassis. Just watch what your doing and if your not sure get help. make sure the Cars safe before going under. It's not worth risking your life over.

as above, just make sure its safe, i always chock, jack check, support, check, check again, usually by swinging on the car abit at least if it goes then im not under it.

tbh i prefer ramps but i need some new ones as mine are for poxy little cars the 12.5 tyres hang over too much for my liking.

I agree with the above, I never crawl under the car until I am completely sure that it is safe to do so. In fact I am a bit paranoid about it. Many years ago a school friend of mine was killed when the car he was working on fell on his chest.

and one of those 3 Ton Heavy Duty Garage Trolley Jack with 520mm Lifting Height

My driveway has a slight gradient slope so I need to be very careful

same here, very slight gradient . When I use stands I give the rangie a good shove and I go a bit over kill in the stands.

if its to change the tranny fluid just leave the wheels on that way if it was to fall it wont crush you

I would be happy to use them, the car isnt 3500kg and your not supporting the whole weight anyway just a percentage.
