The ECU is working, at least to some degree, because theres power to the idle control valve.
Ive noticed that the garage have put the coil in upside down. Theres spark, so its working somewhat. Other than making the spark, does the coil serve any other function?

No....if youve got a spark and with easy start sprayed into air intake your not getting a cough or fart pull a couple of plugs out and spray easy into cylinders put plugs back and crank and if you have spark it will fire...by the way is it the same vehicle your planning your French trip in that your posting in expeditions thread?...

No. A couple of mates and I have bought a tiny Daihatsu Cuore to do the mongol rally in, so that will be the steed of choice. I just want the disco fixed so I can sell it.

Have you pulled a couple of plugs and sprayed easy start straight in as I suggested?...

No, Ive come home for easter. Will give it a crack.
The garage who had it took the coil out and put it in upside down. When I flipped it I noticed it was only connected to 4 wires, and Im certain there were 5 before. Ive looked at the wiring diagram and I cant work out which wires they are. Theres also another connector on the coil.
Am I risking an expensive mistake if I just try them randomly?

Its got voltage across the coil. Its got spark.

Ive put it up on facebook marketplace, will break if theres enough interest (mainly the engine)

Thats a shame. But thats how it is now for D1 V8s, no one wants them, I tried to give my disco away to a relative
once :D
I don't use mine much now and so only has done around 49800 + miles the last time I looked I only purchased it for a particular job and thats been done for a few years.

Back to yours. The V8 EFI is a simple engine, having owned one for the last 36 years, although i’m an engineer although not automotive, so all I understand is” suck, squeeze, bang, blow” and the engine will run, so as it appears to me you have checked all thats involved with an EFI a few times, so your should run.:(

For f.ucks sake forget wiring diagrams pull a couple of plugs squirt easy in then crank if it coughs or farts youv'e got spark which means your wiring is ok then work back through inlet manifold etc its not rocket science it's elimination...

Correct but according to op he's got spark but can't fire engine and wont start on easy...that doesn't add up...

Yes, exactly, it should run.
The only other thing that could be happening is that the bores of the cylinders have been washed so badly that it no longer has compression.
I tested the easystart and the plugs by spraying the plugs whilst cranking the engine. The result is exactly as you would expect, it burns.
Was raining so couldnt be bothered pulling all the plugs out, but tested the same plug in all the HT leads and they all worked

So you used a spare plug? If so that only tells you that plug works...easystart evaporates v,quickly...you need to spray it into piston chambers then replace plug then crank not spray a plug out of engine and crank if that is what your doing...

A V8 that doesnt run is a boat anchor...pull out plugs and do as I suggested if it fires work back through induction system...a worn engine with piston slap will start with easy as that is it's most common use and engines dont get addicted to it thay just need rebuilt...

Have you got fixed yet? Where are you up to?
You've established a spark to each plug lead, the engine cranks.
Have you got compression? Does it sound normal when it cranks? Have you checked the gap on the new plugs?

Have you got fixed yet?
No
Where are you up to?
My neck in uni work.
Ive had enough. I cant fix it, I dont have a compression tester and Im not buying one either. I cant justify spending hundereds for soneone else to look at it with the possibility of fixing it or not fixing it, then having to pay hundereds more getting it back to break it.
If anyone would like to buy it, make me an offer. If anyone is a particularly handy mobile mechanic and thinks they can fix it for no more than £350 cash then please do. Free tea and pizza while you work of course.

Updeate.
Bad news Im affraid. Expert says its not got compression. Likely cylinder bores washed from all the EZ start.
What are my options from here? I see 3 options really. I can break/sell for scrap, I can take a gamble on a 2nd hand engine, or I can rebuild mine (If thats something a DIY enthusiast can manage? Not worth paying to rebuild it imo)
Given that its the bores/block which is buggered, could I use a 4.0 or a 4.6 bottom end with my 3.9 heads? (From what I understand, the 4.0 has the same bore and stroke but stronger bits?)
Thanks!
