Well, everything looked so good, mint exterior, nice big wheels with new tyres, good condition exterior.
Started it from cold, no smoke, checked the air suspension. Looked level, went down to lowest setting, went back to normal ride height, went up to off road height. Let it warm up, went for a drive, it lowered it's self down to normal ride height. Went on a dual carrage way for a few miles, it lowered its self down to motorway ride hight.
Got back onto the country roads, it went back up to standard ride height.
Got back to the yard from where the guy was selling it, lowered it to the lowest setting to get out.
Had a walk round it, everything looked good.
Did the deal. On the way home it developed a little tap under acceleration. Got home (which was 200 miles from where I bought it) and had another listen. It sounded like it was ticking from the manifold gasket.
This progressivly got worse to a point wherre it sounded like a train.
The guy at my local Landrover Independent garage has stripped it today and it turns out it's the head gasket, YIPEE!
To add insult to injury the air suspension has a mind of it's own.
The neerside rear corner seems to lower it's self into motorway mode whenever it feels like it, and I've since noticed that the outside air temp is reading -40 degrees, lovely.
Looks like I was well and truley stiffed!
