Its time to sell my 1982 series 3 2.25 petrol , MOT and tax exempt , I still use it at weekends , it had an MOT up until 2020 ,however as I say it's now tax and MOT free , I've done all of the relevant paperwork. Clean airzone exempt

I am the registered Keeper of this vehicle and have all the up to date paperwork for it including the updated historic class V5. (2023)

I'm just wanting an idea of what's it's worth , I've had it for 8 years .

It would take me a lifetime to list the work I've had done but here's a few of the jobs



Total head gasket rebuild (paperwork provided)

Brake shoes and wheel cylinders changed a couple of times

New exhaust added 2.5 years ago from downpipe to backbox.

Relays added to front light

Spotlights added

New brake switch added.

Electric ignition/points added.

Propshaft uj joints replaced ,

New battery

Usb sockets added.

Middle lap belt added .

Comes with a towbar and electric connector (never used)

2 new tyres



Mileage is showing approx. 84000 and in 2019 passed MOT with no advisories



Mileage may be out (however all documented) as larger tyres added so I think mileage may be higher.




Bad points ,



Chassis will need a sand and repaint , 3 sections will need patching , section on back of crossmember and almost full length of underside sill of rear cross member , also chassis to tub bracket will need replacing , ( I have taken pictures of this sections) on one side.



Starts and runs , now tax exempt (again all paperwork completed) classed as historic vehicle as of this year. As MOT exempt can be driven away and chassis work done overtime.

Any idea what I should be asking for this (roughly) ? ,

Go easy on price if you want to sell it quickly, it needs quite a lot doing to it.
 
Looking at that it needs a set of outriggers and a rear crossmember or a new galv chassis. As above with that work required it is not going to be worth a huge amount as they are not quick easy weekend jobs for a hobbyist, they need someone who knows what they are doing or someone with deep pockets to pay a garage/welder.

Almost an impossible question, as we don't know what welders there are round you, if they want to weld old Land Rovers, what, if any contacts you have in the welding world, what the going rate round you is.

I think if it was mine, and I didn't want to do the work myself, I would just put it on LRO classifieds for a couple of K.
It is free, so if you don't get any bites, you can reduce the price after a while, see what happens.

Bear in mind that, although the vehicle is MOT exempt, it isn't exempt from being in a safe, roadworthy condition.
So buyers may want to trailer it away, rather than drive it. All of which also costs money.

It would get more people looking at it for sure. Would the cost of work add to value only you will know, but ,more likely an easier sale.

if I “was” in the market I would budget that as requiring a new chassis as it looks, so price would reflect work required.

No, I don't think it would, I think you would spend more than you would ever hope to get back.

It's a project for someone.
New chassis and (most likely) a new bulkhead.
Doors look ok from the outside but you'd need to look at the insides to be sure.

There are people out there that would be interested in a restoration project.

Start @ £2500 and, as @Turboman suggests, see where you end up.
