Depends how they are measuring the severity.... everyone reckons we are having the worst, best, least or most of something in hundreds of years every time we turn around.

I reckon they have changed the measuring method to justify what they are saying; a little like the tories have been doing with the unemployment statistics lately.... maybe the meteorological chappies just jumped on the bandwagon!

Well. I'm prepared. I fitted the winter tyres last Saturday.

Today was perfect weather for them...... Ie less than 7c and dry, but wet and snow and ice would be fine for them as well!

If they say it every year, by law of averages, they'll be right eventually and then they'll say TOLD YOU SO !!! :p

Well you could be right ..we'll see if and when it happens I suppose
in 63 the whole country came to a near enough standstill for months...I was just born in that year but I remember mi dad telling me about it ...so we'll see eh:)

Bring the bad weather as I have my Freelander to get me to work and a nice Volvo gritter with snow plough ready at work just to help those bmw drivers out it's always a bmw that's stuck

If we have another '63, you'll have your work cut out -

We had snow 12th-13th Dec, not too much, snow fell again overnight on 26th Dec and most of 27th...
On the 29th and 30th of the month a severe blizzard swept in, snow drifted to 20ft deep in places, driven by strong winds...

The freezing temps kept the snow for over two months ...

this'll give you some idea : BBC Winterwatch 1963 - The Big Freeze - YouTube

trouble is I can remember all that

why take it off

Indeed. I've just been driving a 1.8 petrol for the last few days. Really impressed with the engine. But as it was 2wd, I think the best way to describe it was frisky. It did not inspire confidence, whereas driving home this afternoon, my 4x4 TD4 was rock solid, planted etcetera. I won't be taking off the prop in the summer.

The v6 without a prop must be a real handful.

It is. Mines been running mondo for several months now. Normal pulling away at the lights on a wet road gives a bit of wheel spin. Normally the LHS wheel when there's wet leave on the road. I don't like the feeling of mondo but I can accept some like it and it's the easiest fix for potential transmissions problems.

Indeed.
Truthfully I only took it off because the VCU was suspect, but when I got the refurb VCU back I didn't refit it as winter was pretty much over. Bearing in mind I have been doing 40k motorway miles per year, just seemed sensible to save it.
Mondo is a bit horrible I have to say. Just doesn't feel the same, and quick pull-aways on a damp road are not really possible.
Back in 4WD now and it feels like a Freelander again :)
