It isn't just the oil cooler pipes...

Lifted the bonnet tonight to have a look at whether the oil cooler pipes have for worse....



Seems to be coming from the rocker cover but also some oil around the oil filter and some of the hoses between turbo and the inter cooler. Also oil around the oil filler cap.

Seems to me to have too much pressure and it has ****ed oil around the engine bay.

Any advice greatfully received!

The fan will blow oil mist all over. Check the breather from the rocker cover to the turbo inlet is not blocked. If it doesn't have the external one, you'll have to take the rocker cover off to do the internal one.

Thanks datatek. Amazing diagnosis and you were right that leak is now fixed.

But took her out for a spin and there looks to be a small leak out of the oil filler cap....is this common? Is it a symptom of something more serious or does it just need replacing?

You sure it's not just residual oil? Did you clean the breather?

Check that the filler cap seal is good. On the early version (external vent) pressure within the crankcase opens a diaphragm and allows gases to be sucked in by the turbo. When internal pressure drops the diaphragm closes. In the later version (internal vent) a partial vacuum is maintained in the crankcase when the engine is running. If your car has high miles ring blow by will add to the internal crankcase pressure, it is essential you keep the vents clear.

Is this the breather you are referring to? Mine is a 99 plate...so it has the external breather?

I did clean it but didn't get a huge amount of crap out. Took it for another run and seems ok though. I'll keep you posted.

No it has the internal breather valve. Take cam cover off and clean valve and oil separator.

Thank you all, opened up the cam cover and Cleaned the breather and the oil seperator. Fingers crossed no more problems!
