P38A Is this the connector for a towbar socket?

Stupid forum will not allow me to upload a word.doc file:rolleyes: If you want the complete wiring list PM me with an email address.
The link in the tech archive where the rave manual is stored should allow uploads.
If not, I'll pm my email address and I can put it in there.
Would be handy to have for others in the future.

I am embarrassed to admit that I have been putting the Towbar fitting off (wet driveway, bitter cold, lazy-old-sausage).
I have to do it soon because I want to mount a carrier to it for my holiday and I need to make the carrier first but I need the towbar on before that so I can do all the measuring to get it right.
I am puzzled by one of the instruction diagram steps in the RAVE Tow-Bar fitting instructions (see below). How and what does the detailed "inset" relate at all to where the arrow is pointing?
I see no real link between them. Is the detail something inside the boot or outside it in the wheel-arch? Thanks in advance.

@DanClarke

Not sure but is it the detail inside the bumper, I believe you have to remove bumper (I did on the 322)
Is it a warning that “becarful of parking sensor plug?

J
Thanks for looking @marjon .
No parking sensors on the lowly P38 Vogue, they expected you to be able to drive back in the day.... ;)
But now you say that I wonder if it is a type of captive nut inside the side panel of the boot space? Will pull the panel to see if it looks anything like that inside.
Daft really, but I'm just reading the instructions thoroughly before I even start to make sure I know what I am doing.

Maybe it’s just a funny type of clip that you need to wiggle in the right direction to remove bumper without breaking it:).

If you are trying to take the bumper off, two bolts underneath, then behind the coloured trim panel on the bumper,(which doesn't come off from the outside) are two spring metal and plastic clips that hold it in place. If it's never been off they will have rusted solid or dissolved. Check first on any of the website suppliers for these clips and the pictures will make sense. After that it's a lift and pull and it comes straight off. Beware it's heavy..

Many thanks for this @Bagshot
Will get the wife to take the other side then. ;)

The metal clip should just rotate out of the plastic clip. Fingers should do it. My car is WAY older than yours and mine was fine. The bolt behind the tow-eye was a different matter. That had to be drilled in the end. Total f***ING bar-steward to get at.

Does the bumper really need to come off? The cables go up through grommets either side below the light clusters.

The deciding factor on the state of the side brackets/ clips is if rear mudguards are fitted. Without these, they are in direct firing line of the road debris up into the bumper and straight at the bumper metal. Mudflaps are somewhat protective to s point here

Well thanks to both of you @Bagshot and @Grrrrrr it is much clearer to me now what that image is trying to say. With <15k on the clock and never off-roaded it should be pretty clean back there.
