It does need a certain amount of points if you use the original, unmodified chassis. But if you modify the chassis, or use one that is not identical to the original, then the points system does not apply, and it needs either an IVA or an SVA.I thought to retain its original id it had to score points, but it's got a different chassis, engine, axles so surely there can't be many points left to score?
There is no grey area or loopholes with this. Unless the vehicle has the original, unmodified chassis, or a new chassis that is an exact copy of the original, then the vehicle needs either an IVA or SVA inspection and will be issued with either a Q plate, or an age related plate that is related to the newest major component fitted, in this case the TD5 chassis. Which IIRC was introduced in 1998.
seems to like the word "pal" a lot
sounds like a bit of a tosser .
when i asked him this is what the reply wa,,its been rebuilt pal and has been stamped and can be v i c checked if you want pal has td5 axles and 300tdi engine like anything if you change a standard defende to a galvanised shassi you are changing main frame pal and then you have same question to be asked pal but its done pal cracking motor im in no rush to sell her pal

Then you need to either use the ID from the chasis donor vehicle, or use the chassis and submit the rebuilt vehicle to an IVA. After which, provided you can give a receipt for the chassis, you will probably be given an age related ID and reg. If the chassis cannot be identified though, or you have no proof of purchase, then you will be issued with a Q plate. In relation to the discussion we're having on the other thread, what's the position WRT using a second hand chassis of the correct spec? Say i want to repair my rotten 300tdi and am too tight to buy a new galv chassis, so i buy one from a breaker that's come of 300 that's been written off, but had a solid chassis.
Not entirely true. First off, the year the points regs came in was 96. Also If you modify the chassis, or use a 2nd hand one then you still need an IVA. The chassis change/modification regs pre-date the points system, so they still apply even if you built the vehicle before 96.If it was modded afore 98 no problem
thats bad whats your reg?there is noway that a 1980 rangie is tax exempt..Not too sure how this works but i have a 1972 lightweight on a shortened 1980 rrc chassis its a 3.9 and is on the rrc number plates but clearly states on the log book its a historic vehicle and is tax exempt
