Is this a Defender fan?

My 1988 Defender 110 (originally a petrol) has a bit of a mixed up history. It is now fitted with a Daihatsu 2.8 diesel from a Fourtrak - not my doing.

As you can see from the attached photo (closeup detail of mounting points inset), one of the fan blades is broken. However I do not know what type of replacement fan I require - Landrover or Daihatsu or something else?

If someone is able to say whether this is a Landrover fan or not it would help me greatly. Suggestions for alternatives would also be welcome but I can't afford the expense of a Kenlowe.

If anyone knows of a replacement that would also be great. There is one on ebay at present but from the limited picture it does not look the same.

I THINK THERE IS A FOLLOWING OF FREELANDER LOVERS OUT THERE.........try taking the fan off and replace it with one from the breakers and wire it up from a seperate switch...that way you can turn it on and off when you like........

Most viscus fans of that size fit each other , all that needs is that you get a fan with the same thread.

eg
ford transit fan fits a defender
it may also fit a Daihatsu

The best option is remove it and go to the scrap yard and match one up.

i'm thinking about putting a viscous fan in my series, does anyone have a wiring diagram for this and doi need a relay for it

you will need to wire up a relay for a electric fan , you can't just run from a switch the current needed to run the fan will just melt the switch.

I dont think you get an electric viscous fan, you get a viscous fan and an electric fan.

I have 2 Saab electric fans in my 90. Never seen them on but I am sure they must work a treat. They are wired into the ignition relay, via a thermostat in the raditor, so water too hot, fans go on...

great !! so what vehickles use a lectric vicous fan??

As stated yes there are 2 types of fan electric and viscus.

If you fit electric you need a relay as in my last post , if non electric then just fit ;)
