I have a disco 200tdi in a 90, and get 30mpg on mixed driving. But on a long run - 120 miles to the caravan site, sitting at around 50-55, 35mpg was certainly possible.
$2.85 a gallon here. With a 36 gallon tank, it's about $85.00 for a fill up. Which gives me about 625 miles before next fill up.What surprised me was £1.26 a litre, it's about £1.35 around here

Ah, gallons, I remember them, they were popular here until them damned Europeans ruined everything with their stupid metric system. its cuz they can't count in anything other than multiples of ten.$2.85 a gallon here. Just comparing things. don't alot of IR's have ford engines? If this bothers you than just *******How lovely for you.
But you don't own any type of Landy so your post is completely irrelevant

So was your first response. as a member or as a MOD. Is your second response as being a MOD. It is rather difficult at times to tell if you got your member hat on, or your MOD hat onThis is a tech section, comparing engines isn't very helpful if you don't say what yours is and even then would be unhelpful to the OP.
I'll ignore the last sentence....for now.
Defenders had the same diff ratios as Range Rover Classics, 3.54:1. What you might have is a Range Rover transfer box which were 1.22:1 as opposed to the Defender 1.41:1. Or you might have had a tail wind when doing you test! As others have said it is doable but long term testing will prove whether it was a glitch or a regular reading, enjoy either way. If you want great mpg buy a Toyota Yaris!!!!I wonder if it may have something to do with the gear ratios. I’m not sure but the previous owner said that it had RRC differentials in the axels I wonder if the 2.5na (I’m assuming that was what was in it before the 200 tdi) had lower diff ratios
???Is crap petrol though.
Next time at pez station look at pumps. Used to be diesel/unleaded/4star. Now is diesel (looks like petrol)/unleaded/super opti meteor power or whatever. Is not cheap petrol
