Hi everyone, just a quick question, when driving around in my 2000 range rover 4.6 I notice that my compressor hardly ever cycles and stays nice and cool, but when I have the good lady wife sat next to me and my six year old son sat in the back I notice that my compressor cycles more often resulting in it getting hotter. If this is the norm then that's fine or do I have another underlying problem? Hope the the wife does not see this lol.

Hi, thanks for reply, no, no change in heights what so ever always stays at height that I leave her at. It has had new bags all round, rebuilt valve block and comp, and I have just swapped front height senors over. Although can not seem to recal front left to match font right, thre is a difference of just under a inch. What do you think?

A leak or a duff height sensor, as the compressor is running hot, I'd look for a leak first.

Thanks for all replys, gonna just ride around set at highway setting for now, seem to be working on the motor all the time at the mo so need a bit of time away from the spanners. Will check for air leaks and will just replace both front height sensors in the next couple of weeks. Cheers Paul.

Maybe needs to be re calibrated. Get it on the software and see if it shows any faults.

If one side at the front is higher than the other there is a pressure differential side to side. Each time the speed falls below 1 MPH the front valves open to equalise pressure across the front axle. If you have more weight in the car the bags need more pressure to maintain selected level at any height setting. If your missus and little un are in there is more pressure in all the bags at say standard than there would be with only you on board. Therefore when speed falls below 1 MPH and the valves open to equalise the axle, more pressure is needed to level the axle than if you were alone. So the compressor runs more often. Get the front calibrated.

Don't carry anyone! The ride is great and you can have the stereo on full blast. A real enjoy. And you can go where you want to go!!

Hey everyone, love some of your comments, really enjoy some of the banter on this site and yes divorce would be cheaper than owning a p38 but on a more serious note, I have tried a couple of times to recal the front left but it will not come down that inch to match the front right, if I try to change the height values on the front left to bring it down she throws a fault so I have to put them back as they were to clear it, the fault reads ( front left signal incorrect ). I have put Into practice some advice from Datatek which made things improve a lot but I am now 100 per cent sure it is the front left height sensor which is being naughty, so, must ask the wife for some more MONEY. Once again thanks guys.

Sounds like the front sensor(s) duff

had a similar thing happen in mine, I'd ride around all week alone and get nothing, but soon as I had my other half and kids in "beep beep beep" very annoying!!

try removing the sensor arm from the chassis and move it up and down fully several times, as you may have crud in there. make sure your contacts to the sensors are clean.
