That does make sense, actually as they explained that that is part of the deal - money plus vehicle returned.

Do you know what cat the car was marked up as?

The battery issue does seem to be a bit of an odd point to dwell on currently!

It depends on the agreement with your insurance company.
Did you arrange and pay for the recovery truck ? If not the contract was between recovery truck and insurance company.
Car should be returned as per accident condition, eg bumper and lights fitted back in place.

No, all done by the insurance company!
