Freelander 1 Is the right , switch under accelerator crunches?

Ive got a 2002 Freelander 3 door 1.8l , ive been trying to get to bottom of HDC warning light coming on and staying on permanently , checked wiring, brake switch , thtottle cable and lots of suggested things , I have a question re "switch" behind accelerator pedal . I see there is a little white square switch behind the pedal , now I wonder whether it is faulty because it doesnt return like the brake switch , it just "crunches" out and in and restricts the pedal movement , there are 2 wires coming from it so im assuming it measures something but it might as well be a piece of plastic because theres no electical connection on pedal meeting it , is it supposed to spring back like a plunger because currently it doesnt move on the pedal getting pressed so all its doing is restricting pedal movement

From memory, it's a hall effect sensor, so just detects the pedal is in close proximity.
