From interview I read in LRM a few months ago, the 2007 model is OK till then and with a few modifications will be fine till 2012. After this there is a question mark, but it depends on sales more than anything. If they're still selling 25000 units a year, then that's good money and worth keeping hold of.

Another aside is the 6x6 wide body they've developed to replace (hopefully) the Wolf spec Landys. Same track as a Challenger tank, 110 length chassis with a 130 bit added to it for the 3rd axle. Payload vastly increased and should **** all over the Humvee...

I can imagine if offical production stopped, then a lot of homebuilt landys might appear that have been built out of parts. I know I would consider it if there was no sensible replacement for the defender.

Nope, 2012 is the official cut off date for the Defender as we know it.
Although if you look at the new Disco and Freelander, seems to me like LR are taking small backward steps to the Defender format, well, on the outside at least, inside is a whole different story.

i think that they should keep roughly the same, add things like airbags, and a safer front end (crumple zones maybe). But no.1 priority is to keep it instantly recogniseable and still as adaptable as current ones.

make interior more comfy maybe?
