Is my rear chassis okay to tow a caravan ?

Yes, if the engine, gearboxes etc are sound and you like it, then yeah, 'cos once done you can then keep it good and know it's not been bodged or skimped on. The chap who gemsdad is on about is damn fine with Landrovers, if he's anywhere near the cost of anyone else go for it, well, even if he's way over IMHO ..

Well worth it

A rear section, two legs and a cross member is around 300 quid.

Plus labour of course, which would include removing the fuel tank and chopping the crappy part away

Few guys on here have done it

That is assuming it is only the rear section,in my case,it needed a complete chassis swap.

Just had mine done - Off-side leg replaced with one of these;

Labour from a professional mechanic to remove the fuel tank, put a patch on the near side and weld in the off-side leg, paint and waxoyl the rear chassis was £335 inc. VAT.
Info was that the tank and tow bar assembly was a right bugger to remove due to all the bolts being corroded and needing heat on every one to shift - the replacement leg was very well made and fitted well with little to no fettling required. If I get chance I will post up some pics of the finished job.

Yes it was,but for med reasons,i sold it,the bloke who bought it,is very very pleased with it,as i had loads of other work done to it as well.

Definately worth it.a great car shame the rot so much but id definately repair 1 every time. If jamesmartin was to quote you for the work ask about a possible galv chassis replacement as that may be a option

Heh, nice one mate, never thought of that .. Yeah if you just need a 'van collecting and taking to Ponty, and it's close enough to start with, just pay for diesel .. and a cuppa ..

I'm keeping my Discovery as long as I can and when the chassis does give up. I won't hesitate to pay the £2.5k for a new one and have a go myself at fitting it.
Should make an interesting weekend!

Did contemplate changing the motor recently and did test drive a few others but as far as I'm concerned there is nothing to touch the Discovery II, I love the way it drives and most other things about it

Well I've booked it in and got s date for the repair .. not while the 25th and 26th of this month ( so still time to change garages if needed lol)
He's putting
a new rear leg and cross member section on
Repairing further parts of the chassis as he goes along towards the front
And finishing with a wax oil mixed with turpentine on it afterwards
Price wise
Around £850

Hope it goes well,but be prepared for more welding,when he starts,it never bloomin stops.
