Is its an oil pressure light or charging light?

Hello,

Got a 65 series2a petrol and the amber light in the middle at top of instrument panel stays on now after engine starts where as before when ignition was on the light came on but went out when engine started?

Recently rebuilt head and replaced gaskets etc, oil level is good. Done 200 miles since work but started staying on yesterday.

The series 2A owners book I've got says its an oil pressure light in that position. Its usually green though I think

Did you overhaul the oil pump? Could be a bit of crap blocking it or something simple like that hopefully

My 2A has an oil pressure light in that position, but as Ian says its green and has 'OIL' written on it. Can you chase the wiring back to whatever its connected to. If its connected to the block - its probably an oil light.

When you turn on the ignition you should see a red and a green light for charge and oil pressure. Amber light is used for cold start indication. Look for a switch box on the choke cable in the engine bay. If the choke is engaged and the engine is warm the choke cable switch and thermostatic switch in the block are both closed and the light comes on.
Or it could be the wrong colour lens indicating no charge or low oil pressure!

Had a quick look earlier. There is a sensor just underneath the thermostat at the front of the engine with a wire going to it, the male spade on the sensor is lose. I messed around with it and now the amber light goes out when engine started. I presume thats the oil sensor. The engine is an early 2 1/4 petrol defender engine.

Think the sensor under the thermostat is for water temp,do you have a gauge? .Oil sensor is near the filter.
