I wanted a silver csw last year when I started a new job but mileage was predicted to be too high. I bought a hilux. Mileage is half what I thought it would be, I can use train on long stuff and I’m still hankering a bit, despite building a d1.
I’m now a bit gutted/hesitant that maybe it would be a silly move with the amount being stolen! Is it that bad if the vehicle is protected well? I.e. is it generally the ones without decent alarm systems etc on? My Scooby had tilt sensors and everything through a viper alarm. Would that not cover a hiab theft? Sorry this post spans two sections really but wanted a reality check!
 
Tratters are easily stolen. The best thing to do is alarm them. Make sure it has motion sensors. Park it out of sight in a garage which is secire. If not then block it in with another car. Think about fitting trackers.

The factory fit alarms aint very good. Vehicles with lots of bling can be stripped of more bits to be sold. They can easily be towed away. They take the nut oft the steering go turn the wheels to pull it onto a recovery truck or trailer. Most don't have alarms. Pedal locks slow them down but they manage to take them.oft.

The worst problem is follow owners are happy to buy second hand parts. So the market for stolen parts is quite big and rewarding.
 
Tis a tad gutting isn’t it. I hope to get my d1 good but would’ve been nice to have one of each and I could switch between when maintaining/breaking them. I’m naturally a worrier which doesn’t help. I’ve had a few high power cars that go missing quite often but this is as we know a different type of theft.
 
It's horrible to hear of another being stolen each time. Some don't replace a stolen tratter so they don't have to worry about where they park it. A lot only have basic security so easy to nick.

If yer want one then just make sure its more difficult to nick. Dont leave it in a train station car park all day for eggsample.

If they want it the'll get it. Its all about making it less attractive to steal without making it such a pain for yourself. I'm a big fan of decent agreed value insurence, obviouly you don't want it stolen, but if it is you don't want to be kicked while your're down by a rubbish payout.
 
Simple things like etching the glass help. Won't stop it being nicked but means it needs glass changed to change its identity. One chap a few years ago got his back. In 36 hours they had resprayed it a different colour and swopped the wheels with another. Organised theft and id change in progress. Ready for resale. Police found a small conversion factory with several others.
 
Buy yourself a Land Rover and put some security on it, as suggested above.
All the ones stolen from round here have had little/no extra security.
Get it insured agreed value (Adrian Flux insure newer Land Rovers agreed value)

If it does get stolen, which is still possible but less likely with good security, you will get your money back and can then decide whether to replace it or buy something else, either way you will be no worse off.
 
Good call re glass etching, it was all the craze 20 years ago and all my cars were etched then. Now none are, I need look into that! It really messes up the crims as its means changining all the glass or at least trying to oblitorate the etching which is suspicious.
 
Thank you guys. I was really put off and you've all helped me gain perspective. I don't want a 'trick' one. Just a totally standard CSW that for some reason I really want to be silver. Thinks its the black against the silver I love.

With no disrespect meant, it isn't like its a rare skyline - If it gets pinched, yes it's rubbish but they are metal at the end of the day aren't they.
I would secure it with decent alarm and also the tilt thing. Pedal box too and a couple of home brews.
My Doberman sounds if anyone so much as flicks a fag butt on my drive which is great for house security. If you want to take him on I'll hand you the keys myself lol
 
Annd sorry I know its been done to death but a late TD5 should last into high miles? The one I'm looking at is on 140k.

This one is logged to an online database so if yer motor is stolen and someone finds it they can check the number by phone or online to see if it's recorded stolen.

A friend has 2 trackers on theirs.

The first is a cheap one he bought 2nd hand. It's not actually active. It is however very obviously located.

The second is well hidden, is an expensive one, and is live.

His theory is if it's nicked they'll see the first tracker, remove it, and think they're home and dry. Meanwhile he will be on his way to the location shown on the second tracker with a bunch of his rugby club mates.
 
Hi, my range rover p38 was as good as stolen from me? Last two years had problems with car going into limp mode, got fed up so took to three land rover garages. None were able to find fault, even when limp mode was on? So parked car up in storage area and low and behold owner of lock up said to shift motor 2 months ago. I didn't have any space at home so gave him my car! Yes I know I'm a fool!!! Anyway looking out of window at home on Sunday guess what? Car pulls up opposite my house gleaming! Check gov web site it's now back on road. Absolutely gutted!!!!!
 
So the three Land Rover garages couldn’t fix it but he found the fault.
Unless these garages tried to buy the vehicle from you l can’t see any monkey business having gone on?

A farmer I know keeps his landrover unlocked, with the keys in the ignition.

But if anyone unknown to his dogs tried to get in it they'd have two alsations clamped to their legs
