When turning slowly on left lock,I am getting what is best described as a "Graunching" noise from the front of my P38 4.6.
I suspect it may be the CVjoint. The rubber boot is fine without any splits.
Have any of you guys experienced this problem?. The air suspension is working o.k. and it happens at all heights.

CV joints usually make distinct clicking noises as they wear, especially on full lock.

Graunching sounds more like a disc scraping on something - usually the caliper or the shield. Jack it up, take off the wheel, and have a good look. If there is ANY play in the wheel bearing it might allow enough movement of the disc to do this.

Sometimes a small stone gets trapped in the guard behind the disc - make sure it's clear of debris!

i agree with charles that is unless the cv joint is completely trashed , i had a similar noise on mine a few weeks ago and that turned out to be a wheelbearing , not the nicest job in the world to do but not really a trauma either , it was worn enough to cause the disc to rub on the caliper but until the pads were removed there felt to be very little play present .

Could be your tyre rubbing on the radius arm?

Turn the wheel fully left, and look where the back of the tyre is in nearest the vechicle. Is it touching the radius arm (thing that looks like a hockey stick?) it may have the tell tale shiney metal look.

If so your bump stop needs adjusting or you can just leave it, however SOME MOTers will fail you for it, others couldn't care less.

i think what discomainia is trying to say is maybe its the lockstops that need adjusting , not the bump stops :)

Yup, thats what I mean - it was half six in the morning! Jeez, there is always one...

Let him worry about finding the fault first, then we can worry about directing him to the stop bolt.
