I have to say as a ex freelandy owner i loved mine, ok i did'nt live up to my disco, but i got i a fair few lanes done in it unmodified, and mine was an early s reg 1.8, and the head gasket never went either, fantastic at towing my wobbly box, dare i addmit i found it better at this than my disco...

Love mine to bits. 2003 TD4 had it two years and not been anywhere near a garage other than servicing.

I keep her clean and well oiled, she loves me back in return.

Only thing is the fecker leaks like a sieve

I call that character

Yes.
The main purpose of sites like LandyZone is to get get answers when things go wrong, so it stands to reason that most posts will be negative.
What you should be asking is not, how many on LandyZone are happy with their Freelander, but how many Freelander owners haven't needed to join LandyZone.
If you wondering, I joined for information about my Series III

There are certain people on here that dont like freelander so they will insult them and say that people should burn them but they just jealous :D

chuffed to bits with my hippo, people forget the older the car ,the more it will fcuk up.
mine is 7 yrs old and its acting like a 7 yr old car.
lower ball joint needs replacing now witch aint a bad life span really.

its a lot cheaper than maintaining the wife.

Dead chuffed with mine too.

£550 purchase, £273 parts to get roadworthy and 18,000 miles since buying.

Spent about £400 on stainless gear, £235 replacing the alloys (out of choice) and about £300 sorting wear and tear items.

Now on 116,000 and everything works.

HDC - fixed for free as wire fell off microswitch.
Non- cranking cured for free with emery paper on solenoid terminal.
SRS light cured for free by refitting yellow airbag lead.

So far..... Not had mine long and I have a few bits that need looking at. All stuff I can do myself after searching through endless 'burn it' replies to threads!

Tiny the L series S reg TDI has now covered in excess of 178,000 miles and I am still as happy with her as the moment I bought her. Granted she has needed a new servo (£90) recently and a few other bits and bobs but I consider this reasonable for her age and miliage. I must admit - I do read about all these K series and TD4 nightmares and due to that I am determined to hang on to my old L series. Sure she may be a bit noisier than the TD4 but she goes like stink thanks to a few mods, looks in ace nick and goes on and on. Happy? Yes, absolutely - best car i ever owned.

I'm happy too - my '06 Td4 is working great, I've had it a year and it's now up to 25,000miles with only a small one-off hiccup, which has never recurred.

Since it's been serviced by my friendly local garage, and kept well away from the main dealer (and it cost less than half the price too...), then it's been driving absolutely fine... I just need to get my finger out and get it muddy now!

Here goes,I am happy with my 52 td4,sure things go wrong but in all honesty you name me a 4x4 that does not have any problems,I can't think of any, come to that read any car mag and you will find scores of letters bemoaning any type of car you care to mention.I find my td4 exceptionaly economical,a pleasure to drive and a useful tool,so yes all in all very happy thankyou.!:)

My W reg 1.8 XEI is now ok having had all the gaskets replaced, head ground, new water pump fitted in order to stop the leaking water. However now have bad wear on rear tyres due to another design fault with rear diff!!!!
