Is a tracker worth it on a Defender

Approved higher rated trackers can reduce insurance, if it's already been raised because of theft risk. They counter that risk. The cheaper tracker's don't have the same affect. Yer more likely to get a stolen vehicle back if it has a tracker, or early warning device to tell you it has been nicked. The stolen section on ere has a fred on what security devices were fitted when owners vehicles were taken. The list of pedal and wheel locks removed easily with known methods is surprising. To the point it's just a time delay device instead of a deterrent. The time delay is surprisingly short.

More often than not, when most vehicles are taken, the owner doesn't know its been taken. They only find out later when its not there. That can give a theif a head start of many hours. A tracker with a vibration alarm will tell you if its been tampered with, within seconds (depending on device).

That doesn't work if the keys are taken in order to nick the vehicle as the tracker won't sense anything is wrong. But the tracker will still be active and record the route it's taken and transmit that information to the web or a security centre (if the device you have has either of those options). Before the tracker is found and disabled, or die's depending on power available, you will at least know the direction it went and hopefully where it is if its still at the last reported location.

When pedal locks, steering guards, locked gates and dogs have been bypassed... and the vehicle taken... a tracking device is yer only option to know where yer vehicle went, or/and currently is. False plates hide them from anpr camera's so there's no method of finding them other than luck. Luck a copper pulls it for a check or a member of the public reports it as parked somewhere suspiciously. Once out of sight it's hidden and gone.

Trackers provide immediate warning/recording of movement/theft, and log where it went and where it currently is (depending on the tracker you have).

The desire to fit a tracker or not is down to whether you want a betterer chance of getting yer vehicle back or not if stolen. As said, it's an early warning device and helps to get it back when its gone.
