Is a D3/D4 less "bouncy" than a D2? What about a L322 2002-2011?

Hello,

I have a D2 2004 and love it (even with the problems I am currently trying to figure out ).

Misses also loves it but does not like it how "bouncy" it is. So we are looking into getting a second LR for the family (yes call us crazy).

For those who have driven both D2 and other LR vehicles, what other options would you recommend, on this criteria alone? (less "bouncy")

Looking at D3 or D4 or any RR Vogue - ranging from 2005 to 2011.

I wouldn't bother and would see it more sensible to buy a family car like a Kia for comfort and longevity

Leagues ahead of the D2 comfort wise, also has a flattish floor unliked the D1/2.
D3 getting old now and as usual with older LRs corrosion is an issue, only really the sills as chassis is pretty tough so far.

As for D4, just google SDV6 crankshaft issues, then go and buy that Kia as DB suggested above.

yep - maybe a D2 is enough

But it would not be the main family car; we have a toyota for that. We would use it for the « fun weekend drives », assuming it would not break mid journey

I would be looking at petrol versions of both though (But I believe those have other engine issues that are easier to prevent?)

This sort of depends on what you are meaning. A Disco 2 shouldn't really be "bouncy". Is it modified?

A D2 should easily be more comfortable than say a modern Ford Fiesta. Although if equipped with 18" rims the ride can be a little rougher than on 16's.

The D3/4 is a completely different vehicle, it has all independent suspension instead of live axles. So it does ride and handle differently. They will feel much more like a tall heavy estate car. While the D2 should still drive like a 4x4. I like the D3/4, but there is something about having a 4x4 drive and feel like a 4x4. Best bet is to go and have a go in a D3/4 and see what you think.

The only time the D3/4 is likely to ride worse is off road under certain conditions. Overall the independent suspension should be smoother, however when raised to off road height (and even more so if you play with the computer to raise it slightly more). The air springs get quite solid and produce a bouncier ride.

I have been in quite a few other cars recently and the D2 is no worse and can be better,

Those small Peugeot taxis, crashy.

D2 rides quite well, but a lot of newer cars are a lot harsher

I would try stiffer double acting shocks before going to a different car. I don't recall my D1 with Bilstein shocks being bouncy. My LR3 on 18 inch wheels is not bouncy. In fact I find the ride to be on the harsh side.
