toomuchtime. well done, just drove a 322 for t first time last week, what a car, it was an 04 with 96 k on t clock, they are a rocket with comfort, i m in t west and t roads are well they are s---e but t 322 drove beautifully and i will own one someday, but they are expensive if they go wrong, this one has t air suspension inactive warning on after somebody fitted a new wiper motor also has some off t digits missing in t dash and on t m i d display, front bags also pricey at 400 stg each, steering column trouble all lead 2 big bills but they are a lovely drive, and t tax is a killer.

inishbofin be t one for me but that has its side effects if you meet one of our new supa troopers, you know t guys i mean,, i stopped him for speeding and fired three warning shots into his head, we re lucky they have no guns.

thanks again
well fingers crossed ....all going well should have it end of this week
it needs a good clean ( a new sponge and few gallons of holy water should do the trick :))
Turbo has been replaced + two fuel pumps and other small stuff ...other than that it has history service.

Hi TMT

Sounds like a nice job so good luck with that.

Just out of interest what mileage and spec is it? SE, HSE or Vogue?

Just make sure that all recalls have been done by LR. Most important is recall for front diff wearing prematurely so any owner should have receipt for that. It affected all models from 02-04 and LR were supposed to write to all registered owners - if in doubt ring LR Ireland with the chassis number.

Other than that good luck with it. Hope you won't need those laptop batteries after all.

Hi Pat
it is se spec....100k miles !!-
going through the service quickly, the owner did show me work that was done by LR under waranty ... this could be what your talking about, but i will check again - thanks
there are a few small issues...he pointed out
1- stain on carpet in boot
2 - switch for fan - interior heater had packed in and he got a seperate switch to use as off / on
3. drivers window dosnt work ..he thinks regulator ?
It wasnt used for work - non smokers - no rips or tears etc
all panels straight ( probably usuall scratches)...it was dirty
For what it is and what I saw around in the last month or so I think I got a good deal , price wise ...

would a set of rosary beads be any good as a key ring ?
I dont expect reply on this one from the Uk lads:D

Taking the pigs to market??

That's complicated..why not twist the wires together
3. drivers window dosnt work ..he thinks regulator ?
Who needs the windows open over here..it's always cold & raining
It wasnt used for work - non smokers - no rips or tears etc
Probably unemployed-at €8+ a packet who can afford them?-Probably sat on his hands to stop his missus getting to his wallet..she probably doesn't wear stiletto heeled shoes.
all panels straight ( probably usuall scratches)...it was dirty
Everything looks good after a few Jamesons..Dirty cars..that's nothing new over here

As an ex Brummie, you would be surprised :hysterically_laughi more likely to have a tag with the Samaritans 24 hr. hotline number.

Hi TMT
Yes best to check exactly what was done under warranty - most will have warranty work done at some point, normally in the first few weeks and years :D Just be sure that the recalls have been done - no reason for them not to be as they were all free, unless you get a lazy owner who can't be bothered to lose the car for a day.

The mileage is about right for things to start failing. Gearbox and diffs being main one - at least it has a new turbo so one less thing to worry about - when was the turbo replaced??

Sounds generally OK for a 02 model - just be careful - SE didn't have all the toys so a bit less to go wrong :)

Just as a reference I saw a big difference in the price of a 02 4.4 V8 vogue and the diesels the same year, as you might expect.

To be fair the V8 was about €8,500 in Cork and the diesels were about double that - for someone doing small mileage the V8 would have been a much better buy over a couple of years - even though you would have to nearly scrap it then as you'd be married to it - but i've been married to worse

yes do keep the rosary and some holy water with you at all times - bless yourself daily.

Good luck

Pat

Hi Pat
he did tell me the milage - but to be honest i was trying to take a lot in !
he did say it was replaced shortly after he got it - something in my head about 68k

thanks for the warning on gearbox and diff's :(
...we're (wife and i) are already thinking did we ( or mainly me ) make a huge mistake ....so far paid non refundable deposit ... and still unsure:confused:
so could still walk away ?
mainly cause of reliability ,lack of knowledge ,and probably lack of good RR mechanics ( but cant be certain) in Dundalk area

is it a given that these things go ? ( gearbox..diff..etc) or could it depend on what sort of life it had ?

Nan-ber's previous post really helped the confidence:doh:
there should be some sort of filter tab on this forum ...to prevent NORMAL people like me from loosing sleep :D ...

Hi TMT

Sorry really wasn't trying to put you off your purchase, just wanted to give you a bit of a heads up in advance.

If you feel like a bit of light reading  have a look at this long page of problems and remedies - it's from the USA so mostly about the V8 petrol, but the majority of it applies to the L322 generally:

MkIII L322 Range Rover Remedies

A lot of useful stuff there for all L322 owners and good bedtime reading for you :D

Many owners report problems with the auto box on the TD6 - seems to be less reliable than the auto box in the 4.4 V8 - but they're different boxes anyway - GM in the TD6 and a ZF in the V8.

General consensus seems to be regular oil changes in the gear box - even though landrover tell you that it is sealed for life - ignore them.

To answer your question, it seems to make no difference as to how a L322 is driven or how hard a life it's had as to whether it has problems.

Not sure about LR specialists in Dundalk - I'm down in Tralee and they are few and far between here anyway.

Anyway please don't let me put you off buying, if it's a good price and seems ok. The diff should be covered anyway, you can always change the oil in the auto box straight away and the turbo will hopefully last if changed lately.

Try not to lose any sleep anyway - do what I do - whatever the purchase price just put the same amount aside for repairs

Good luck and if you're ever down this way for the Rose of Tralee give me a shout - it be good to see it in the flesh as it were.

Pat

thanks for that Pat ...there are only 50 problem forums on that link page .....so with my two week holidays in france thats the next 12 months sorted:D
Ill let you know how get on

Hi All, Jed in Ballina here
I've got a 2002 l322 diesel which I bought last year in a fit of madness.
Usual battery drain problems solved by new wiring loom and new battery.
Still got issues with a non-working drivers mirror, MID pixels missing and;
Strangely, she moves when on a hill, in Park and handbrake on!!!! gearbox clicks but does not hold her still.
Even after all that I love the beast!!!

...well only a few more to join then !
I just collected my 2002 HSE L322 ( not SE as i previously thought...shows you how dirty it was last week and how little i know about these things)

I feel im mixing within a different class ...the owner left a bottle of Martell cognac on the back seat for me :D ....is that to numb the pain ?

anyway - delighted with it ( first rr ) kids say theres more room that my Audi tt , ill measure it tomorrow when its bright:rolleyes:

Off to read my Owners manual ...
