Hi guys, left to go to my brothers wedding today and the disco started playing up 10 miles into a 240 mile round trip. First noticed it when i went to overtake on a hill, lost all power and engine light came on, which went off when throttle was lifted. Manged to get there by keeping rev's under 2500. thought it might be turbo related. On the way home it got worse, any small incline with rev's at 2000 to 2250 the power would drop and i would lose all throttle reponce, the rev's would drop to around 1500 and then i would regain controll of throttle the engine light would come on some times and not others. However when going down hill turbo kicks in and rev's to 3500 and changes gear ok.

Was running fine since I got it 4 weeks ago.

Can anyone suggest where i should start looking for the problem

its a 1995 300 tdi auto ES 138,000 miles

cheers.

if EDC maybe throttle potentiometer ?, could be worth reading any fault codes stored.not sure if EDC pumps like veggie oil.

Here's what I would do and in this order:

1. Replace the air filter - irrespective of what you were told when you bought it. Just to set a baseline;

2. Clean the fuel sedimenter;

3. Replace the fuel filter;

4. Try to ascertain whether it is an EDC (Electronic Diesel Control) car or not;

5. If still bad replace the fuel lift pump - easy and cheap, about £20 from Paddocks;

Let us know how you get on,
Cheers
Dave

Cheers for the replies,

air, oil & fuel filters were replaced 3 weeks ago, just before i towed a caravan to wales and back with no problems.

I have looked for the sedimenter but can't see it, checked around rear off side wheel, is that correct?

I am planning on changing the fuel filter again as i fitted a britpart one and am not sure its good with veg. I will also check the lift pump is working, this will all be done as soon as it stops ****ing down.:mad:

I will also try and see if its an edc pump.

Ok its sorted. Changed the fuel filter. I found some jelly like substance so I think the veg/bio is reacting with somthing in the tank. I think i will have to drop it and give it a good clean, is it easy to drop the tank?

just a note on the bio/veg front. I have been doing veg/bio for 3 year and it is good quality filtered fuel. The same batch is currently running fine in the better half's pug 206 and my transit.
