Hello to All.
Very, very new to all this forum discussions, have read some and found it to be invaluable.
Have just recently bought my first ever LandRover Discovery 2 td5 manual 2001 and very pleased with it we are too. My wife and I moved from long history of Volvo estates which do go on forever (299,000 miles and last one 243,000 miles) but they are rather low for ease of access. We decided on Land Rover as its a proper 4x4 and British and always wanted one. My mates all say "should have bought a Honda, Toyota etc".
However, after a few weeks the Landrover has developed a fault that I cannot get any further with. Basically, when you open any door the interior lights do not come on. They operate correctly with the switches (so not power problem). They also do not come on when operating the key fob. Its a bit of a pain as I am an hgv driver starting at daft o'clock in morning and putting stuff in total darkness is awkward. I now keep torches as well as stretching into vehicle to operate the switch. The keyfob operates correctly and does lock/unlock the doors. I do not have the EAK codes. (if its enabled).
Some threads have suggested the BCU needs reprogramming, some say fault with earth wires but am at a loss.
Any one seen this before, local LR specialist says that BCU is robust and probably not that.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
Many thanks and Happy New Year

Tony.

So why not introduce yourself in this Forum and then go to the Discovery Forum with your issues with the interior lights, where you would stand a better chance on getting the answers you need.
To save repeating what has already been said already on this subject which u say u have found in "some threads" do what is suggested in the thread and if you still have the issue return stating what u did and what didn't work.

You may in your searches found this recent and comprehensive thread on non-functioning D2 interior lights https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/interior-light-diagram.309497/

Happy New Year to you and Welcome to the Discovery Forum.

Hello and Welcome.

As Discool has said, go and ask in the Disco section as it gets more footfall and is more likely to get answered.

Also, do make an effort to find out your EKA code, hopefully you will never need it, but if you do it saves a world of hurt.

Happy New Year to you.

Cheers

Hi Tony,

No worries, at least you came and introduced yourself......:)

It also helps in the future when others are searching for the same issue if the problems are kept in the right section...good housekeeping you may say.

Do you have a workshop manual / electrical diagrams? If not , I will post a link to the rave download so you can get the manuals.

Cheers

Hello Neilly. Thanks for your response. No don't have any manuals or diagrams. The Haynes manual is on my christmas list but since that now passed will go and buy one. Sorry don't know what you mean by 'rave download'. Said I was new.....
Tony

OK,

Rave download includes the Owners manuals / workshop manuals / electrical diagrams / electrical component descriptions.
Needs to be downloaded to a computer.
Very useful especially for the D2 and how the electrickery works.

Cheers

Ok understand.
Using pc to use this website. Would the downloads mean that do not need to buy the workshop manual. Always have done in the past, useful to have the complete book.
As for the EAK codes, the local specialist with whom I have yet to get the car to due to christmas break, can hopefully give me the codes whilst accessing the BCU unless they need to be created.
Regards.

Hi Tony,

As the Rave is PC based, I normally also get a copy of the haynes manual to keep in the car as a quick reference, But I rely on the Rave if I am planning to do a job.

The EKA code can be read from your car, So if you do not have it, make sure to ask for it from them. Alternatively a LR dealer should give it to you FOC if you provide proof of ownership.

Cheers

Hello,
Thanks for that, I'm at present downloading the rave file (8mb bt broadband, slow..) but agree with you to keep the actual manual. Will ask for the EKA code and also go to local LR dealer and ask them for it. Should I also download the other iso files. Its just finished and have burnt to dvd.
Thanks again for your assistance.
Tony.

Hi Tony,

The other Rave files are for different LR vehicles. So you can download if you want.

Cheers
Hello, Yes found the other rave files were for other vehicles. I have to thanks for the info, I checked the section on BCU and it would appear that although it does control the interior lights there is no facility to be active or non active. Therefore the BCU just controls them. This section is quite comprehensive and am surprised at just how much the bcu does (non wonder it costs over £550 for replacement). The section includes the various wiring diagrams. The link that Discool sent for another thread who had the the same problem makes for interesting reading and will follow that when weather permits. Will definately get to lr specialists/dealer for the EAK codes..
Once again many thanks.

Regards
Tony
