As some of you know the green Lemon went back and I have bought my self a series 11a and am loving it.
I have been looking at insurance and have seen various threads talking about Adrian flux.
I already have a car insured with Aviva there quote came back at £96 fully comp 6000 miles a year with Value 5k to 14K with an excess of £150
This seems like good value. I also looked at adding home recovery road side assistance etc as I am not mechanically minded and she is old. This would bring the price up to £170.
TBH I am not intending on doing a huge amount of milage she is a secondary car as I live in a remote location and just a thing of beauty :) Sadly my GF does not seem to see the beauty ;-(
The quotes seem reasonable what do all you think ?

how long would a recovery truck take to reach you out in the sticks
do you no any one who could tow you home if you break down

I changed my breakdown cover on my car to any car im driving or in
i did check that my old landy was covered as some places had a miles from house restriction on classic/old motors and one khob head company wanted me to pay the recovery cost then claim it back

I don't understand the "value 5k to 14k"

You put in the value of the car it gives you brackets 0/£5000 £5000 /£14000 so you pick a bracket that your cars value fits in. More expensive slightly higher premium. Always best not to undervalue or you can get screwed if you need to claim. Mine cost £3200 however I am intending to carry out a fair bit of work thus it should be worth more. Also I think its worth a bit more than £3200 as it was a good find but I could be wrong.

Nice motor by the way, what's that black "hole" in the front??? Lol!!!

Thank you ;-)

Better to stick with the basic policy..and buy roadside/recovery etc from AA or Rac or such..then you are covered in other vehicles as well. Cost would be about the same. :)

Sods law, iIf you get the breakdown cover you'll never need it, and if you don't get it you'll breakdown next week.

I think an extra 70 odd quid is maybe a little steep but depends what you get for your money. It's about £5.80 a month which is peanuts really for what you get. (I think it seems expensive cos your policy cost is so cheap you lucky bstard. lol)

I got recovered last week from North Wales to Herefordshire, and luckily it was through the RAC so free. The driver told me this little story though;
His most expensive recovery was when a guy drove his astra van down a quarry road to go diving. He got stuck and wasn't a member of the RAC. He called and became a member of the RAC, who then in turn organized recovery of the vehicle by a land rover, and then recovery back home on a flatbed all the way from North Wales to Nottingham. Total cost came to 950 quid. In the end the RAC said they wouldn't foot the bill because he hadn't been with them 24hrs. Ouch.

Go to one of the brokers that specialises in classic car insurance.

I have been insured throough Peter James, renewal due in Feb. Last year I paid £109, fully comp, unlimited mileage, breakdown cover. I had no no claims fto use for this policy. The only stipulation was that I had to prove membership of a recognised club.

Not such a 'knob head' idea really. I've had the same deal with a motoring organisation for many years. It gives you the choice of either calling a central number for one of their recovery agents or, if you are in a familiar area, to make your own arrangements with a local garage if that's more convenient to you. Either way most of us pay by card these days anyway & sending off the claim form results in a repayment direct into your bank a/c within 24hrs.

Does sound pricey for the recovery. They used to quote about 30/40 extra last time I was offered. Never took it on as I'm a long time aa relay member, covers you in any car as mentioned. They repay my loyalty by trying to shove it up me with every renewal. I have to phone up with my victor meldrew head on every year.... ****ers

RAC through Tesco clubcard for me.
Me and SWMBO in any vehicle, roadside, recovery, return home, 3 day loan car, in fact everything except homestart.
This year £41.50 in clubcard vouchers.

If you have a recovery policy through your bank check the fine print. My landy wasn't covered as it was more than 16 years old. My landy is 23. Luckily I had cover through my insurance policy and was recovered North Wales to Colchester free of charge.

I'm with the rac covers me n my son in or on anything, we also have free breakdown cover which came with our car insurances through money supermarket and it ain't worth ****! ! So glad i didn't cancel the rac as needed em to bring car back from wales to west yorks (although it did take em hours to sort it but complained n got £35 of vouchers)

If with RAC & you live more than 10 miles from the garage & need recovery from home, you will be charged the excess mileage... They wanted £135 to go to a garage 35 miles away (authorised Bosch repairer to rebuild my injection pump), told them where to go. Green Flag & a lot of the clubs the banks & insurance use have age limits of 16 years old. I'm currently with AA & have tagged on their repair scheme, I pay a £35 excess, they then pay up to £500 & you pay the balance over that, only thing is, you need to show service history to prove it's being serviced in accordance with manufacturers specifications

There are many levels of membership with the Recovery organisations - some restrict the recovery milage..others don't. Some are restricted to particular vehicles, some cover any car. Policies through the banks and insurance companies generally tend to be more restrictive than direct membership. Generally... you gets what you pays for - and as Cooltide says...watch the renewal quote...they hope that members will just automatically renew without checking the price

I've worked in the business, always cover myself for any vehicle & maximum cover, accept for European cover as I stay on the mainland & hired locally of gone overseas.

With RAC, even with full cover, if you need recovery from home, they will only go 10 miles, over that, they charge.

Breakdown cover is like insurance & warranties... Read the small print before buying

From home, possibly, but theres no limit on recovery if you're not at home, Ive had a 70 odd mile recovery a couple of years ago (not in me fender) from Brid to leeds, and a 20something this year.
