I am having trouble obtaining a realistic insurance quote for my 110 County. It is a conversion from a TD5 to a 3.9 petrol with auto transmission, (good old Rover V8). Getting silly quotes up to £4000 (Adrian Flux)
and just under £2000 from Lancaster. I would be grateful for any suggestions of who to try next.
Many thanks

I've literally (within the last two hours) left @Adrian Flux after many years and gone to these

Flux were 435 and wouldn't budge, Lancaster were 371 with 6000 miles restriction (my 73 year old mom does more than that) and Brentacre were 359 including protected no claims. Worth a call

Surprised at Adrian Flux being too high. Mine's with them (for now) but might be worth giving A-Plan (Brokers) a call - nice people - got the other one with them but i will certainly get a quote for 'Wolfie' next year with AP - especially as they have a modified section! LINKY

Why's it so high! flux usually pretty reasonable. 4k? Do you have no no claims or something?? 12 points? Seems crazy price. Don't undervalue too cheap cars cos more to insure cos more likely to write off

Have you tried Direct line: https://www.directline.com/int
I was with them for ten years, I did a ring around each renewal time and nothing could come close to them.

They are utterly useless. I tried to insure my old 90 with them and the dimwit on the phone didnt know what a rollcage was for a start then refused to insure it because it had non standard alloys....

Each year the number of insurance companies who will accept non manufacturer fitted/supplied mods is reducing.

Years ago I had good deals from NFU for a V8 110 csw on gas. Most of them did not have a clue what a 110 was and were trying to offer me a quote on a V8 disco.
NFU came up with a good quote and when I said it was on gas the guy said "well that wont make it go any faster will it" . Liked the attitude so went with them. I did have a rural postcode though, that will make a difference.

I was with NFU for years and they were great to deal with. But a few years ago the renewal quote doubled to £800.

I’ve tried them a few times since but they’ve been hundreds of pounds more than my best quotes.

Currently with Adrian Flux for the Agreed Value, although the renewal last month had a two page section asking for details of all “modifications” on the vehicle.

It helps if the insurance company knows about Defenders, Adrian Flux are OK (they did struggle to understand what “anti roll bars” were)

They were happy with the stage 1 remap and removal of side facing seats, plus business use.

i bought my 90 a few weeks ago, my no claims is on my van for work so had to insure with 0 no claims, 380 for the year with adrian flux. so i added breakdown cover for an extra 60. I'm 27, no accidents, points or out like that. 4 grand is ridiculous... hope this helps

Does removing a propshaft count as a modification? :D
Yes because it's changing the vehicle from the manufacturers original factory spec of being a full time 4x4. :p :D

Fitting a tow bar, roof rack, tinted rear windows, side runners, winch, roof mounted lights, bigger wheels, tuning chips, larger fool tank, mud guards, nudge bar... are all modifications. Insurance companies demand they're listed or it may cause them to back out of insuring you if they find out at a later date. Most insurance companies will accept them if they're manufacturer fitted when the vehicle were built. If they were added by the selling garage or owner at a later date then they're considered different.

The AA for eggsample int too keen on the mud guards I fitted. I bought them from a LR main dealer and fitted them meself. They confirmed if LR had fitted them when it were built ont track the insurance wouldn't go up. I fitted them so insurance is higher and they wouldn't cover them in the event of a claim. So I'm not with them anymore. They're a special kind of stooooopid.

Items like trackers, additional alarms, steering wheel locks etc go under the heading of eggstra security. So they don't mind those being fitted but still want to know about them. But mud guards are a huge concern to the AA. I wonder if they fit them to their breakdown vans.

I can confirm all me propshafts are fitted and working. :)

Josh, take a look at the size restrictions on the breakdown insurance details, as I also had breakdown cover from Adrian Flux and the maximum weight it covered was less than that of the Defender so a useless policy for me when I phoned and questioned them about it they said that they could not help me "go and get cover from elsewhere".
