I am sure somebody will tell me I am posting this in the wrong section and it needs to be in Insurance posts but I'm putting it here for those with Discovery 2 move recently got re insured – I'm just a bit amazed by how much premiums have gone up since last year and getting quoted over £300 for limited mileage insurance, clean licence, no claims, advanced driving test passed etc- are others experiencing the same? Where can you still get a good deal?

All comments appreciated – thanks

I would say 300 is a decent price if full comp, not sure if it is old enough to try a classic policy?

I always use compare sites, normally get a better deal.
Our house insurance seems pretty high this year.
Not claimed in over 20 years

We are with Saga, Disco 2 2000 auto TD5, limited mileage, parked on gravel drive in front of house although not visible from the main road. This does includecontinental recovery, which is a lot of the cost.
£320.

Trick with house insurance is rebuild cost, not market value, though in current climate rebuild cost might be higher!

I think we once claimed on house ins when freezer failed, and that was over 30 years ago, I only insure it in case the bugger catches fire, anything else I will sort myself.

Due to poor balance I have made sure my TV is insured as if I fell into it 1.5k to replace.

Doctors are so slow, one test at a time!!!!

Was told that anything like a Defender/Disco etc is expensive, because of the damage it inflicts on other vehicles.....

Only if it is all your fault, so they would take into account your driving experience, no claims discount, job, i.e. are you in a licensed trade, etc.
So that actually sounds like a bit of a cop out. :( :( :(

yes my renewal jump from £130 to £270, thats 115% increase, so I shopped around and got it for about a 10% increase, it pay to shop around

Not really relevant as insurance as a whole is looked at and price goes up across the board to cover their profits.
Most of this is down to unnecessary tech on modern cars, £2k for headlight is not uncommon, £1.5k to replace a mirror. All of this needs paying for and it's all of us who pay not individual policy holders.

Other car are designed to just disintegrate at slighted bump, seen lots of photo of smashed up cars only read on the impact was less than 20 mph

My BMW M Sport 1 series was recently written off... for a bumper, headlight, and front bonnet. The headlight alone was around £1500 for adaptive xenon . As for the comment about the damage the LR inflicts, that came directly from the broker.... so, yes, it is relevant.

This is how it works.
Many approved repairers are on fixed rate repair, £1600 for any repair regardless of cost. The insurance only pays full cost over £6k, so you can imagine a £3K repair all of a sudden becomes £6.5k because of unseen damage. The repairer then using "green" parts (2nd hand parts to you and me) often bought from insurance owned breakers. Not forgetting the energy charge, environmental charge, curtesy car etc passed on to the policy holders. All of this contributes to the increase in insurance.
Percentage wise I imagine Defender insurance claims will be more for stolen parts rather than accident damage so I see it as an excuse.

Most insurance companies hike up the renewal prices. They hope you just renew, and not look around for lower prices. Best prices are always lower for new business, so shop about. I got my van insurance half the price of the renewal cost from my existing insurer....

Didn't ring up but tried lots of different ones including comparison sites.
The funniest one was when I rang up to insure with, I think, Lancaster as their quote for new business was so much cheaper than their renewal. The phone call went much as you would expect until they asked me who my old insurer was so they could chek the NCD.
"You" I said.
Pause.
Silence.
"I'll have to talk to my manager."
Pause
Silence.

Then he came back a little quieter and just carried on.

That'll teach the barstaff!!!! 🤣 🤣 🤣
