Insurance for 18yo

Hey guys first post

I’ve got a landrover that has just passed an mot however I’m struggling to find any insurance for anywhere near what I can afford The issue is I’m only 18 I believe

my defender is a 96 300tdi
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar issue and has any tips or tricks or insurance providers that can offer me a decent quote

Could try @Adrian Flux at 18 your stuffed tbh.
Youl be wanting a black box, a garage, fitted tracker & every other security precaution your can get for a defender
as they get stolen quite often.

If you're using that well known online insurance comparison site try putting the policy start date to start in a few weeks. My 20 year old sons came down by £600, he is 20 but it is his first policy.
And add your mother to the policy, that helps.

I tried adding him to the Range Rover but it was around £10k

I was 18 when i got my 2A, insured with NFU first off.
It often helps if you can add other drivers to your policy, but you do have to be truthful about who the main driver is.

It can also help if you have "access" to other family vehicles.

Give the NFU a call. They actually know what a Land Rover is and don't shat in their pants when they hear the words "18 years old, 2500cc turbo charged engine, four wheel drive" in the same sentence.
Back in the early 90s my Defender was heavily modified, roll cage, engine and transmission pushed back in the car by nearly a foot, Range Rover axles, winch, bucket seats etc. ALL mods were listed and they were the cheapest i could find.

I'm 17 and I got a great quote (under 1000) form aviva van insurance and no black box !! They have also been great with modifications - no issues converting to soft top or fitting a winch

how long ago was this, did you add any other named drivers and did they give you any special requirements

Almost exactly a year ago now. I'm up for renewal in a couple of weeks. I had my father as a named driver which brought it down a bit, I was insured for 8000 miles but nothing else that was special.
