Hi Poprivet
Do you have the link for the special tool below in your how to please cheers Arctic.
Next to be seen is a hexagonal captive nut. You must be very careful when you remove this as it needs to go back in the same way it comes out. The lower-side has a machined face. Also, you need to have a special tool to remove this. I bought one off Ebay. It’s a 10mm HEX ALLEN BIT Bosch Injector Dismantling REMOVAL Tool TAMPERPROOF SECURITY.

PS was it this one you used ?

Thanks for useful info - cleaned up a couple of spare injectors to try to eliminate the 'pinking' on my 2002 TD4 - see pinking thread.

Whilst doing this I noticed that the part numbers for a manual car (0445110049) are different to those for an auto (0445110110) - does anyone know what the difference is please?

It will surprise no one that a reputable garage put 2 new injectors in my car about 4 years ago and they are the wrong part number !! One is now suspect. I have bought a 4 channel stethoscope and driven hard up hill with monitor microphones on each injector and listened to each in turn whilst the engine pinks merrily. Injector 4 makes a very odd noise compared to the other 3 so I'll start there ! It sounds like it is 'dithering' rather than the bang bang of the others..

The auto box engine makes a couple of extra Ftlb of torque over the manual, so that's likely due to injector capacity.

So - have changed injector 4 and substituted a refurbed one. Power is back and is good, injector knock at tickover is much reduced. That's all good. However, the 'pinking' is still there when engine pulling hard. Shall I; a) leave it alone. b) substitute other injectors one at a time with a known good one. c) something else??

Am wondering whether it might be an exhaust gas leak?? Can't see or hear one on tickover.

Special tool arrived today for some reason I do not think it is the right one, will report back later when I have had chance to check.

Thanks. I’m in the middle of stripping my mine now. I did the injector ends ok but nearly lost the very tiny 2mm wide disc/shim that goes in the brass tube that sits between the spring in the body and the injector head needle. Seems a bit different to your picture. I’m hoping it fixes a bad white smoke problem when revving and very poor rev pick up from idle.
