Infotainment System

Folks,
We have this non-standard infotainment system fitted (pictures attached).
It’s a BMW type but that’s all we know. We haven’t a clue how to work it.
On starting it says Android 4.4 Kit Kat
Google maps won’t work sadly, a message displays saying Google Play has stopped working.
Any help advice gratefully received.

It will use your phones apps, have you paired it with your phone?

No idea but there's only one way to find out, try it and see. I would expect it to work on andriod or iphone.

Thanks. Will have a try later on Sunday. Just realised that I have an old Android ‘phone as well so will give a charge and try also.

Android 4.4 is really old. Google maps, etc. needs at least Android 8.

Best solution is as above . . . . connect bluetooth for hands-free and use a modern phone for Nav & Calls.

or fit a newer Android ? Plenty out there, but by all accounts a big job !! Glad I don't have one of those rust buckets.

No I tried but no luck. The system was looking for Wi-Fi but I was too far from the house. Never mind!

Got it to connect to the ‘phone (iPhone) which I don’t really need as I have the Apple Watch but Google Maps won’t work sadly.
It plays DVDs okay and should play TV if a digital module is fitted.
No idea if the rear screens work as I haven’t tried yet.
She due a full service and a good valet then I can have a play with things.

If you're a complete masochist and really want that old android to work, you could try a manual install from here.
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/maps/variant-{"minapi_slug":"minapi-19"}/

BUT, there's a high chance the app will not actually connect to google & grab any map data due to outdated protocols !!
