Hi everyone I a new member on here.
Basically my Bamp has gone and bought a 1999 freelander 2.0di but my nan struggles to get in and out of it due to her having arthritis. And he offered it to me for £1000. He's only had it a week and has taxed it he paid 1200 for it.

Only problem is I can't find much info on them about mpg, common faults (engine) and wether they're a decent enough truck

So if anyone knows anything about them if appreciate the info

Thanks in advance

First of all introduce yourself in the relevant sections and put where you are from then use the :search: button because there is a sh*t load of info on here most stickys so have a look

Only saying because otherwise everyone else will say it and plus it just manners and they DONT COST ANYTHING

don't call it a truck.

the 2.0 di is a sound enough vehicle, a little slower than the td4 but more simple in its mechanics

view it more of a plodder than a racer and you'll be reet.

would be expecting around 30mpg depending on age, miles and useage.

have a look for how to check your vcu on here, which is one of the most common issues

good luck though, for a grand I'd be tempted to give it a go

Ok thanks
I have posted in the 'introduce yourself' section.

I've had a look on Google and can't seem to find much info everything I find is for a td4

It seems tidy enough for what he paid.
It's got 110k on the clock and has been serviced regular. The only thing I don't like is that it's got different make tyres on the back (read somewhere that they should be the same all round?)

I may be tempted to give it a go, I'm not too bothered about it being slow as I don't take my astra over 60mph anyway

All depends on usage tbh if you don't pull anything or want to go green laning or off roading stick to your astra really wants point in wasting money if you don't need to unless you have too much of it, it which case can i have some lol

I would do a bit of green laning in it and probably end up doin a bit of towing I think I'll tell him to put some tyres on it them I'll buy it off him haha

Defiantly haven't got too much money I'm still waiting for the tree to grow

I've had my L Series for 3 or 4 years now. I was skeptical after owning discos for over 10 years, and at first it was a bit boring - but its a great car. Great everyday driver, and very capable offroad and tows "small" to "medium" loads a dream - our 4M boat laden with camping gear on the mountains round here is a doddle for it.

The fuel consumption figure mentioned above you should beat easily. On a run it should do just under 40MPG (some get over 40) and around down it will drop to the lower 30's.

Get those tyres sorted though - its a must and I talk from costly experience. Also - lift a back wheel and make sure you can't turn it by hand and that its not the brakes stopping it turn. Some have gears taken out of the IRD to make it look like a 4WD - but they aint. You could go a bit further and do the 1 wheel up test to give you a bit more confidence that all's OK.

Good luck.

Thanks very much for the info
Yes the tyres I would sort straight away are there any you would recommend ( that don't involve me having to sell an organ)

Just been having a look around for a set of tyres for it.
What do people suggest?

Once again, there's loads of threads on here discussing tyres, a search should give you plenty of advice. Just match people's talk to the sort of use you'll be doing in the car.

If you get the car but can't afford to replace the tyres straight away - it might be an idea to remove the prop shafts & VCU till you get them sorted. You won't do any (more) damage to the transmission then. It only takes 1/2 an hour. There are insurance issues with this though - you should really tell them as it makes the car non-standard.

Ok thanks I'll have a look when I'm on the computer as I'm on my phone ATM
I think my Bamp is going to change the tyres straight away anyway so could be on to a winner haha
