Ok after a few weeks of research and e-mails. I came to the conclusion after reding rover ron etc sites my 03 plate TD4 had a MAf problem. I cleaned the EGR etc also cleaned the filter in black housing near injectors (forgot name)and all pipes and ducts. Still got lumpy tickkover and a little under performance. unplugged maf and it seemed stable tickover but very diesely exhaust fumes, found improvement after cleaning all filters and EGR. After investigating MAF routes I did not want to waste money on a Bosch. Rover ron has now sould out his maf side to a tuning company who never replied to my e mails regarding pierburg mafs i decided to go to the manufacturer and a supplier in germany who was helpful but unsure my idea of using the BMW pierburg would work and without the MAFAM. the new MAF from pierburg has the IAT sensor on it so doesnt need the MAFAM so i agreed to be the guinea pig and test it. The part number is 7.22684.09.0 . I fitted this tonight and the improvement was immeadiately noticeable and the tickover sweet. I will report over the next few days but after a good run it seems spot on. Hope this saves someone the pain i have been though.

So this is a new BMW Pierberg with IAT sensor vs the 'old' Mercedes Pierbeg that needed the MAFAM from Rover Ron?

Which means it's a direct swap for the factory Td4 MAF but with better performance?

Sounds like a good find Ricko.

Ok 2 answers in one yes its the new pierburg maf for bmws I paid less than £100 delivered from germany no i dont have the rover ron module fitted and was very dissapointed that i never got a reply from Rover rons partners who have taken over the maf side of his business, although i am going to fit well refit a tuning box which purchased recently and kept disconnected until i had sorted MAF out Engine feels very sweet and positive I know i have cleaned almost everything else out too just in case, but the mAF made the biggest improvement. If no one finds a source for the maf here in uk or imported let me know and i will give the details but im sure they will soon be widely available possibly at BMW dealers and specialists.

That seems to be what the original post is saying, it's a replacement for a Td4 Bosch maf, which is the part no. you have quoted.

This one we are discussing must be the one inside this housing at Euro Car Parts MAF - Euro Car Parts UK’s No.1 Car Parts Retailer

The one at Euro car parts comes with the plastic housing and the one mentioned in this thread (here) is just the sensor.

For the sake of undoing a few screws to extract the sensor from the Euro Car Parts one (to put in the original BOSCH housing) it probably
doesn't matter either way which one to get as they're apparently the same product at very similar price.

Eurocarparts MAF housing and sensor: £102.56 inc delivery
Pierburg 7.22684.09.0 MAF sensor: £92.61 (£8 cheaper) inc delivery.

To explain more, the BOSCH MAF is MHK101130L, the copy is MHK101130 without the 'L'.
I think the one without the 'L' is the Eurocarparts one, hence it's 1/2 the price of the BOSCH from LR but apparently doesn't fit (only sensor does)
according to this thread.

Iv just ordered one from GSF in leeds. same pierburg part no. ending 090 and its just the sensor. when searching this online there is quite alot of write up saying this pierburg part is a replacement for the bosch....maybe they have realised there part is S**T!! . I also contacted rover ron for quote on pierburg and synergy. Got next day reply... but right now cant afford £252.75 inc P&P and vat for both. Went back to the threads and read that Ricko (member) had fitted the replacement pierburg. Mine costs £99 and pick up in few hours.....just hope it fits...and dont need any other part....!!! will post outcome laters!!

Hiya
...... tell the story! Was it a straight swop? No need for MAFAM? Running sweet with no hesitation?

Hi I am considering one of these Pierburg 7.22684.09.0 MAF sensors ..... would it still work ok with the Synergy2 .......... are people generally having good results with thses MAFs......

Of what I've read in the past they even perform better than the Bosch ones, are also more solid. (Used also, amongst other car makers, in Mercedes ). I believe they even say it's the perfect match with the Synergy2.

Hi all, just replaced the Bosch MAF with Pierberg 7.22684.09.0, but the TD4 is now "flat" up to 2,000rpm, then takes off like a Banshee.... I'm not keen on this flat-spot, preferred the instant grunt of the old MAF, have I gone wrong? Do i need to do anything else? Incidentally, I've previously fitted an EGR blanking kit, replaced the air filter for a K&N, and changed the crank oil filter for the BMW type seperator, any advice welcome, thanks....
