Hi I own a freelander 2 and a few days ago my battery went flat, so I disconnected it, charged it up and reconnected it. Then when I pushed my keys into the dash and hit the start button everything cut off as if the battery was dead, now I know that was the immobiliser not letting my key start the engine, has anyone had this problem before or does anyone know how to fix it? HELP!

Try disconnecting the battery and re connecting again after 5 minutes.
What is the battery voltage.
Are you quite religious, do you know all the start sequence clicks and visual sequence of events, prior to pushing the start button.
If not what exactly do you see and hear

Check that the earth from battery to starter, what year is the FL2 when you insert the fob does the steering lock come off? I wonder if the fob battery as failed, do you have a spare fob.

Ye the battery in both keys is knackered, they both don’t unlock or lock the car when I push the button, but they both used to work still when inserted into the dash, and it’s 2006

I would say that the fobs are not holding charge then, remember the battery as to be in good condition in the fob to hold charge, charging takes place when the fob as been inserted into the car and is being driven, I had my fob battery change at a cost of £30.00 pounds took 3 days as I posted it to someone to do it for me.

Hi Billy Mac,

Same happened me 2 weeks ago and whilst I chaneed the car battery the fob is still stuck in the ignition and the car is still immobilised.

Did you find a solution, would be hugely indebted to you if you could share, I need it for a trip by Friday.

Best,

Milo.

Hi Milo.
This may work or may not but worth a try disconnect the battery for about 30 minutes, re-connect battery then see if the fob will release, if insert fob again and see it the car will start.

Hi Artic,

Many thanks for that but I changed the battery and that took about 30 mins. Upon reconnection the fob remained in the ignition space and the immobiliser light is still on and the dash is still showing a transmission communication fault.

I read that this could be a BCM issue is that likely?

Many thanks,

Milo.

Milo. is your FL an Auto if so is it in the park position, if not fob won't eject otherwise, also you could try removing battery cables and shorting together for 30 seconds to make sure that you do a system reset, there maybe some residual charge somewhere ? if that fails you need to get it on a reader to check the faults.

Sorry but shorting the battery cables together after disconnecting them has the potentual to cause damage. It induces a sudden high current flow which electronics doesn't like. When the cables short any residual power in the styem dissipates across the short. Electronics doesn't like sudden currents like this. Disconnecting the battery and leaving it for 20 seconds is enough. If peeps want to see the power drain out of the system leave a door open and watch the internal lights go dim then oft.

Hi Arctic,

It's an auto indeed and is stuck in Park although there is no led light indicating that, thanks very much. I think you're not in error as the next steps will be to get it hooked up to some diagnostics software and pray that something simple can be done rather quickly.

And thanks Hippo, just in case I'll not short the cables, thanks.

Anyone know a good Land Rover repairs garage in north east London?

Many thanks for all your help!

Milo.

Hippo yes I agree shorting the battery cables together, as the potential to cause damage that is why I said you could do, maybe I should also have said it could cause damage, I have seen it done but have never done it myself, at least Milo as deferred that idea :oops:sorry guys

A huge thanks to both of you for your valuable input, I'll likely try to get it to a garage today and will let you know the outcome of this once the issue has been resolved.

Many thanks again.

M.
