Immobiliser problemo

why are ya messing with the wiring on the back of the starter motor its easyer to locate the feed under the steering wheel where fuse box is and splice a new +12v feed on to it there from memory its the thick yellow wire mind use a multi meter first to locate it , hwo have you wired the injector pump up ???

By running a wire from starter relay (thick brown/orange wire in footwell) to starter motor, which by the sound of things was stoopid!

Excuse my stupidity but where's the solenoid? Would this be a small unit located on top of the starter motor??
Taht's it mate, it's part of the whole starer .......it's small but important, as I said it's pushing the starter drive in to flywheel to turn it and feeds the starter motor when it gets voltage

so what your saying is your keeping your starter motor live ie not isolating the feed when the ignition is switched off , so why has mine been done this way and it works fine

Not sure mate, all I'm trying to do is get my engine started. The discos still up on axle stands after doing a top end rebuild, new brakes, a shed load of welding, in fact is fairly safe to say a full restoration the way its going!
Will be a lot happier once I see the engine running with hopefully no leaks..

1 question just to clarify , you defently have dds on your system then ???
and you have 3 wires comming from your injector pump ?? with a tamper proof cover/seal on it ??

Am on my way home soon with a spangly new exhaust system :)
will have a butchers at the diesel pump to see whether there is a plastic box attached to the back. If not, I guess it doesn't have DDS and therefore fueling shouldn't be effected?..

Okay, not sure about the DDS but maybe this photo can help me? (maybe not!):

have found 3 wires going into underneath of diesel pump, 1 black and White which I guess is a cut off sensor, 1 brown and 1 black.

Should I wire +ve on battery to brown cable on fuel pump + starter motor solenoid?

Have tried following the other thread by connecting cables in steering column to starter solenoid and relay but no joy.

Also, there's a buzzing noise coming from fuel pump when ignition is turned on, I noticed this since owning the disco - guess it's normal but thought I'd mention.

Any help would be really appreciated I just want to see thus baby fire up!!!

Oh forgot to mention I've now lifted all diesel lines from injectors to see whether any fuel is being pumped in but nowt when switching ignition on and turning engine over by connecting starter solenoid to starter relay (brown/red stripe wire in drivers footwell)

this definitly sounds like immobiliser faults, the fact its not starting from the key,and by turning over with diesel pipes of you should get fuel, wich you arent, sounds like immobiliser is wired in to cut the exciter wire to the starter motor and the 12v + feed to the fuel shut of solenoid. try connecting a wire from positive of battery down the shut of solenoid, the the left of the fuel pump if your stood on drivers side, little round thing with one wire on it, once youve done that, ensure you have fully charged battery, then conect from positive of battery to the exciter wire on the starter solenoid, the smallest connector on the solenoid! if she fires up when doing this, then you know you have immo problems, make sure you can remove the cable feeding the shut of solenoid easily as you may want to turn it off pretty rapidly if something isnt right,
hope this helps

Great!! That could prove very helpful
Have just found that the lift pump isn't working, but doesn't mean I'm still not having issues with immobiliser/injector pump.
If a new lift pump doesn't work will target the fuel cut off switch.
I've currently been turning engine over by switching ignition on to '1' (using switch as car has no ignition barrel) and the connecting +ve on starter motor solenoid to starter relay in offside footwell (thick brown+orange wire). As I understand from your post I should try this with the addition of running 12v direct from battery to the cut off switch (single black+White wire)?
Thanking you!

Hi, I followed this except for using the main +ve terminal on starter solenoid, but still no fuel at the injectors. Do you think it would make any difference if i find the small connector you described on the starter solenoid?
Thanks

to get fuel back to the injectors once air has got in the system, the engine needs to be turning over pretty quick, another way to test is on the top of the fuel filter housing there is a 10mm bolt with slit in it, undo this, then pump the lever on the fuel lift pump until you get fuel out of the hole where the small bolt sits,if you cant feel any resistance when pumping the lever on the pump, try turning the engine over a notch and try again, once youve got fuel to the filter, get to the single wire on the back of the starter solenoid , and using the battery to the cut of solenoid method, turn the engine over that way and see if you have diesel then ,if this still doesnt work, then remove the fuel cut off solenoid from the fuel pump, the remove the plunger inside it ,then refit, this then effectively bypasses it, then start it as described above using the back of the starter, remember if it does start then to stop it you will have to stall it using 5th gear, handbrake on and feet firmly on the brake pedal!!
let me know if you need more help mate ..

Thanks for all the advice, unfortunately have tried all this over the last 2 evenings (covered under 'Fueling issues' thread - probably would have been best to keep this all in the one thread)
