Howdy.
I think I've nailed down how to reliably get around the 'You do not have permission' problem:
Thought I'd post my findings here in case it helps anyone else having the same problem.
It's possible to drag the image from your file manager over the editing box where you write your posts and drop it into the text but this usually does not result in it being uploaded to the server so will not appear when you publish your post or reply.
I've found that the trick to getting it to work repeatably is this:
1) drag your picture over the text input box and, keeping the left mouse button held down, wiggle the picture around and around or back and forth. You should see that the 'Drop files here to upload' text will stay visible as long as your mouse keeps moving:
2) release your mouse button while keeping your mouse moving over the text input box. The image will not appear inline with the text but should be uploaded normally and appear in the files list under the input box:
4) Just insert it into your text as you would normally.
5) ????
6) Get back to welding up rust holes
I can't see how this would work on mobile but you can't use the bloody site past all the adverts for sexy older Ukranian single women and dodgy tax avoidance schemes anyway so no great loss
