Hi guys I'm after a 90 as my first car, I've already had a series 3 and my dad also has a 110, so I know what landys are like, I've found insurance for £2000 from aviva which is actually allot cheaper than any other car out there ( but the landy would have to be van style) ( anyone know how to get cheaper than that? Inbox me if you do please) and also I was thinking of getting a 200 or 300tdi engine it, (anyone recommend anything?) also I've wonderd weather to get it from those ex mod sales people as it would have character and also be great fun and possibly cheap, but would I be better off going on eBay and just hunting ?
Thanks Ben :)

Hi guys I'm after a 90 as my first car, I've already had a series 3

I guess that means road car?

Also i'm 19 and had a licence since January and have a 1994 90 van style and I think its just under £900 for a year on aviva fully comp. Had to change some of there details as they had them wrong but still a good bargain I thought.

Did you go specifically to the van insurance or just use the car one and put the reg?

Iv just insured one im 19 try adrian flux if you get a before 1990 its even cheaper although iv just insured a 1994 with 1st central they were quite cheap iv got a 50percent liability claim on me and i got it for £1500 a 1 ltr corsa was £3000
Hope this helps insurance is the biggest con going

Yes I mean road car :) I went direct to the van bit on avia and typed in the reg but at the top it still asks if it's a van or car, so I clicked van and I thought you couldn't use Adrian flux until you were a certain age ( I thought 25) ??

I had originally gone for a 1989 90 and that was only about £650 fully comp and £630 TPFT it that helps. Just trying to think if I did anything wrong to get it under £1000 now. I also thought flux was a certain age so never bothered.

Its does seem that a van is the way forward, you could try the post office, I had tried a Peugeot partner van and that was only about £990.

I don't know about being 17/18 and having a 90 as a first car, but I'm 20, with Flux and on my 110 (ex-mod, get one of those as they are so much cooler) urm, its £670 odd.. thats TPFT, if you can get it for around £1500 or something you are onto a winner, as a 1.6 saxo for me last month was £2,480... hence going for the landy!

Because small cars (saxos, corsas etc) are usually first cars and get crashed a lot you tend to find premiums high on them and larger engined cars are now starting to be Cheever to insure which in my opinion makes insurers idiots and conmen as it should be based on the individual who they are insuring

If they did do it by the individual they are insuring then they would inevitably start being accused of profiling... They can't win unfortunately, they're just an unpopular mob!

As for insurance, it's definitely worth the cash for driving a defender :p
I'm paying a ton as well, but it was cheaper to get comprehensive than tpft... go figure :whoosh:

This.

Insurance is a rip off but I think for the youngsters they ARE insuring the person, how could an insurance company insure a person with no driving experience to base the quote on individually.
So they lump them all together, base the experience they have with the age group as a whole, and nail the lot of them.

My son is 21 and his insurance has come down a lot since he first passed his test, at 21 he can now get a reasonable quote for him to start looking at Evo 8s :eek:
