Partially true the Mod wanted there stuff Made in the UK so they didn't have to depend on the US for military hard ware/parts. But we Know both depend on each othersorry to have to say but the Land Rover prototype was built on a Jeep chassis.
But it was found to be not up to the job and so us brits built a proper one![]()
Excuse me...
Lets say "inspired by".
Nothing to do with the military, In the late 40s Maurice Wilkes had an ex WW11 jeep at his Welsh holiday home. He took the idea of a simple light weight 4x4 and developed the Landrover originally as a farm vehicle, its design, construction and the materials it was made of were dictated by the economics of the post war era.Partially true the Mod wanted there stuff Made in the UK so they didn't have to depend on the US for military hard ware/parts.
