I'm glad I checked

I decided this morning to check my tyre pressures as although I've had the car for a while now I have not got around to checking until now. Visually all looked OK and I've had no problems with economy, tyre wear or steering, however the pressures were as follows:

F/N/S 30psi
F/O/S 22psi
R/N/S 15psi
R/O/S 20psi

Ooops! Think there's a lesson about checking my tyre pressures... Think I'm too used to having cars with low profile tyres where you can easily visually see even small differences in pressure.

All a nice even 30 psi now.

Cheers

might want to try a little experimentation. Found the handling marginally improved by upping the pressure slightly to 32 psi, with no discernable loss of grip or traction. There is a thread on here somewhere

Suppose it depends what yer doing in it. Some one else here suggested 27 all the way around. Personally I stick with 29 on all 4.

Ive been running either 32 front 34 rear, or 34 all round, depending on what kind of driving im doing. I read on here somewhere that the back wheels like to go slightly faster than the front so have a bit more PSI in the rear tyres, is this so?

I know thats higher than most but my tyres seem to be wearing mostly on the shoulders, both inner and outer.

I think its down to the tyres having a weak sidewall though. They are Avon tyres, wouldnt really recommend them, although grip seems to be ok.

Did they explain how the back wheels can go faster than the fronts?

I was under the impresion that the front wheels were 0.8% overdriven, that would make the rear wheels "slower". having a higher pressure in the rear wheels would give them a greater diametre, reducing the difference between the front and the rear.
