How do I turn the engine over in order to set the ignition timing? Do I need to get a starting handle???

just rotate it by using the bottom pulley, you should be able to do it by hand, try turning it by the pulley on the alternator/dynamo

slacken yer dizzy and just rotate it clockwise a bit, then rotate it anti-clockwise until it just starts to speed up. this will allow fer any wear in yer dizzy and also set it fer the fuel yer using.

Here comes a story. It's a new dizzy. I've just (well, six weeks ago) paid (lots) for a comprehensive service from a local "specialist". On the way back from the service "Gloria" started running a bit rough, misfiring and occasionally backfiring. When I got home I phoned the "specialist" and asked him to sort it out. That was six weeks ago. He's failed to show up on three separate occasions and is now avoiding my calls, so I've decided to try to get to the bottom of it myself. I also had a new Weber carb fitted at the same time, so I suppose it could be adjustment of that at fault, but on balance I suspect it's more likely that the points aren't closing or that it's a dodgy condenser. If anybody has any mechanical aptitude at all (any at all = > mine), is feeling benevolent, has a few spare minutes and lives anywhere near Bristol/Bath, the kettle's on and there's beer in the fridge...

Wes have you found the fault yet? Mine is going the same way it seems! I have a man who is a bit of a whiss with all things landie like and I'm sending my SIII to him at the end of the month so if he finds owt I'll let you all know.

Finally got it sorted out - transpired that it was the coil at fault. Had a new one fitted and now Gloria runs beautifully!
