Hello,
I have a Petrol S3 with a faulty ignition switch.

Its the type fitted to the ignition switch barrel integrated with steering lock.

The problem is I cant find the part anywhere. The part number on the switch is 39412E and 157SA.
Body width is 34mm and depth 22mm.

Googling only turns up part number 314215, or a Bearmach part PRC8230.

So, question is - whats my options?

Many thanks.

I found a new old stock one on eBay for £70 when mine went. I have seen a couple since, you just need to keep looking at landy parts on ebay. I never bothered looking up part numbers. Are you sure the actual barrel isn't replaceable from the main casting?

Hi, thanks for replying.
Its just the switch that is held in the barrel by 2 grub screws that needs replacing - the car was cutting out randomly while driving and had become an erratic starter, which I traced back to this switch.
I've since found a Bearmach part no PRC8230 that from the image looks the correct part - but hey ho, there are no dimensions in the specification for it on their website.

The grease from assembly goes hard and stops the connection (after 40 years..). You can get a bit of success by squirting WD 40 in and working it to soften the grease and clean the contacts. Worth a try as a stop gap.

Thanks Rob,
You inspired me to take to bits and have a look.
Its a very simple switch, and mine had plenty of black tarnish with some green verdigris on the contacts.
So, bit of a clean with 1200 grit, put it back together - gonna try it tomorrow.

If you don't have any luck cleaning it, I have an old one kicking around my shed somewhere, you can have it for the price of the postage. I don't know if if works but you might be able to make one good one from both.
