I did worry about this. so checked into it.
Nowadays, they don't make a killing but I think that back in the 80s they must have made more.
Speaking as one who got his fingers burnt in the "low cost endowment " farce.
I got caught up in the "endowment farce" all the time I had the mortgage I ignored the red letter's warning me to pay in more (in failing endowment, good idea!) and in the end it paid out exactly as it was predicted originally. Must have been a rare case.

You were lucky. 😲 😲 😲 😲
I/we had 4 of the sods.
3 taken out with my ex, one for each time we bought a house, then the last one when we divorced and I bought her out.
The first two did as they were advertised, came in at more than the basic insurance value, the third came in slightly lower and the 4th came in well below. If we hadn't been going to sell the house we would have had to have done summat drastic. Like you we got the notices but had a plan anyway. We sold it to finance buying in France.

I took it up with the ombudsman as it was the same advisor all the time.
They said that his selling of the policies to me was OK because "at the time" they were performing as predicted.
Which of course is BS when it comes to 25 odd years down the line.

To me they are incredibly complicated and something I think might be a good idea may cost me badly.
Until I paid the mortgage off I couldn't really pay in enough but now I have some money spare I have found I can't pay in more. Something to do with the original company being bought out.
Who would have thought being in your 50s is emotionally harder than being a teenager!
Off subject, sorry,if you find a Time Machine let me know cos I’m effin off back to the 80’s…could list the reasons but ain’t got all day. I’m sorting out pension stuff just now too. Nightmare. ✌🏻

On some happier news I have found a registered company who charge only if you take their advice. So essentially they will look into my pensions for free and if they come up with a plan that involves moving a pension then it's a % of the value. Most likely a set up fee if I start a 3rd pension instead.
Anyway I'm happy with that for now, what the report comes up with I will have to wait and see.

Im facing a medical discharge from my job, been very hard to find advice on it all. At the moment im dead in the water. Still trying to find out what u need and how it affects me with other work etc. tried to stay with employer but they’re on the warpath to give me the boot. Looks like they’ll manage it. Feel like just taking off with my collie.

A few years ago I went to a good, local firm, they spent a lot of time going through my pensions, chasing up queries. They were very thorough, it was concluded in their report that there wasn't anything to be done so they didn't charge me anything which I was quite surprised about. I guess what they charge others evens it out for them.

That .may be the case with me to a certain extent. Of course they get paid for other advice and therefore win more than they lose, wouldn't do the job otherwise.

That's difficult, not sure it's that easy to get rid of ill people nowadays. Of course they might be able to pay you off, good legal advice is needed.
Wish you luck.

So sorry for you mate.:(:(:(

You've probably read this but if not...

If it helps, my missus was made redundant, or they attempted to, on medical grounds, although despite being registered disabled she could in fact still work. Luckily for us her daughter is very highly qualified in HR and was able attend all interviews with her. She wiped the floor with them and they ended up giving her a huge pay-off. So, sadly, if an employer doesn't want you working for them, they usually win, it is just a case of how much it costs them.

Also if they do that, they cannot stop you working elsewhere should you wish to. References these days usually just consist of a statement that you worked for a company between such and such dates. No more.

There are employment law specialist solicitors around if you have no contacts in the HR game.
Very best of luck with it all.

Thanks for that mate. This has been ongoing for quite a while for me but I’m in the closing stages now I think. Won’t bore you with a long story but between cab and a chat with a lawyer and then some pretty rank emails from my employer they have made more than a few mistakes. I’m outta my job regardless but I hope I can nail there arse to the floor for the way I’ve been treated. Hr were a joke, union are thin on the ground. Anyone at the place I work I ask for some advice/help backs down and is gone. I’ll sort it, I’ve faced worse it just a pile of crap tho….when the seagull follows the trawler…😂!!!
