The chassis on a 109 is about 1" deeper section than an 88 so it will be easy to tell if it ever was a 109 chassis by the size of the chassis rails, It is still possible its been shortened but I doubt it. It is also possible that it was stamped wrong from day one, errors probably occured, but it also seems unlikely. My hunch is that it is an early 90 restamped to an S2A to get tax exemption but that it was done some time ago and its changed hands a few times since then. Its a case weighting up the probability of 2 options; 1 it is S2A that has the bulkhead, wings, suspension and axles fitted from a 90, or its a 90 that's had the reg plates, chassis stamp, and dash fitted from an S2A. Both have do occure but one is a lot less work. Can you post some chassis pics? Suspension mounts for example?

Everything about it looks like a 90 including as has been pointed out the jacking holes in the front, who would go to the trouble of putting them into the chassis of a series?
Has the chassis number got welding around it?
Probably the whole things a ringer made to appear to be a series on paper for the exemptions.

The gearbox could be the decider, if its on a newer engine, full time 4wd, coils on a 90" wheel base its essentially a 90. Could pose problems for MOT and tax exemption as the "no modifications" declaration will require a "yes" so it will fall into the MOT and the points system will propably score it as "taxable" as its not on its original engine, suspension or transmission.

I would focus on measurments rather than numbers: the exact wheelbase, the distance from the front of the rear wheel arch to the door jam, the depth of the chassis rail, the number and location of the gear levers.

ye i just had another look at the chassis and right in the middle on both sides looks like two chassis may have being joined together

That makes sense and explains a lot. Its looking like it should be on a "Q" plate. Hard to know without totallng up the various parts and dimensions exactly what it is most of. It looks moslty early "90".

Thats definitely not a series box then. Chances are the axles will be from a 90 as well then. Your looking at a Q plate really.
