Of course, that's inevitable, but by then ICE vehicles will even more heavily taxed than they are now, still making electric the cheaper option.

At this point in time, I definitely wouldn't be using my retirement fund to buy a £30k 90, regardless of how clean it appeared.

I'd put the money towards something that I could afford to use for the next decade at least.
Unfortunately ICE vehicles will plummet in value within the next decade, so like it or not, EVs are pretty much the affordable form of transport for the future.

Hmm that depends on the sales ;)

by 2030 EV's still won't make the majority on the roads even if they were selling 2 million of them per year which they aren't, so I fail to see how that will happen ;)

I can't even think of a car id spend 30k on.

At the moment, EVs are selling faster than supply, but ICE vehicle sales have stalled. We'll see how long that continues.

I definitely wouldn't spend £30k on something 30 years old, which could plummet in value at some point in the future, especially if it were horrible to live with on a daily basis. :eek:
 
I want something that stinks of petrol and leather, sounds like an absolute animal, preferably a v8 or above. I can the rest easy in a few years knowing I made the most of the last of the petrol days. :(:(:(:( The thought of it breaks me. Before the defender drained it, I had a pot for an ls430. Not pretty I know but 4K for a well built v8 barge and I would’ve enjoyed it. Maybe when I restock the pot I need to think bigger and less sensible.
Back on topic and in light of the above:
Keep the majority of your rainy day find, get a d2 if you need a 4x4 with a green badge then buy a cool petrol car!

Pez and diseasel is down however

Pez still has a near 50% market share compared to 7% for BEV in 2021 ;)

However if you include every model that has an ICE engine then the share is still king ;)
 
And that doesn't take account of the tens of thousands of Teslas that have been recalled for unexplained battery fires and mysterious runaway accelerator problems. I knew they were cramming to much optimism into them cells.

There is the occasional battery fire, but an electric vehicle is only 50% as likely to burst into flames as a petrol vehicle. ;)
The unexplained acceleration has been proven as a hoax. ;)
 
When we were allowed out we would go camping to the South Coast, and because we want to "steal camp" we seemed to end up in a lot of small towns with a lot of retired folk. Very noticeable what vehicles people (well blokes) buy with their pension pot:
A small tax exempt historic - often an MG, a Merc SL if the pot was bigger.
or
A Tesla.
We were in one town on a sunny weekend and I would say that was 50% of the traffic and every one had a 65+ male driver.
Both options make sense, low or zero depreciation, very low running costs, fun and low risk as in unlikely to get hammered by some rule changes.
 
It is very tempting to do something like this but take a step back and think .I started looking at 35K 110's and nearly talked myself into it
but kept an open mind and kept looking for months. ended up with an 06 90 county in excellent condition with full fsh and 70k miles in mint condition at half the price.
some might still say a tad expensive but its going to do me for the next 10 years at least. Its that nice I don't want to get it dirty.
Maybe I will buy another one to get dirty with the money I saved. ;-]
 
I would not go newer than early 2007 late 2006.

I have driven a late one LR experience but my D2 was so much nicer and gruntier.

without meaning to sound like a dick, it’s due to the situation. You’ve got a rainy day pot that would be pretty much cleaned out by buying an expensive puma. If you went on an M3 forum, you’d probably get same answer.

Worth noting, if over 6ft you may find a single cab pickup too tight. I would’ve loved a pickup - they’re my favourite model but couldn’t afford a dcpu and single cab too tight.

You’ll get a decent 300 for 10-12k also. No it won’t be a shiny new puma but you’ll scratch the itch and get a knuckle scraping hobby that will take over your life, sanity and trap you.

I think you willl find that is because the vast majority on here value money, and how hard it would have been to gain that chunk of money.

Not surprised so many have said don't buy it. It may be market price... but it's a lot of money for not a lot of vehicle.

Get yerself a Freelander 2 if yer want to buy a LR product. A pocket size range rover without the weekly repairs and high running costs. Style, comfort and go anywhere ability you can trust.

@Led Zeppelin , that's a strong level headed decision, which is not so easy when our sometimes illogical man maths kicks in...we can all so often spend £££squidlets on something when it's not needed. Whatever your final choice, good luck with finding a sensibly priced Land Rover and do post pics/details when she finally arrives
