Morning everyone. Kenyan resident here, and acquired a Disco Mk1 for a thing called Rhino Charge, a charity event raising money to preserve water courses coming down the Mountain (Charity is called Rhino Ark). The car was #43 last year, however we’ll be competing under #61 this coming year (31st May)

More info here:

She’ll be repainted a bright ‘luminous’ green, currently the doors are off having heavier duty mesh added.

The 31st was a long and difficult day!

It all started going wrong about 200m from the startline when we found numerous deep, deep luggas (dry water course, normally cut 5-6 feet down and across). Leaning at 45 degrees then made the engine cut out from fuel starvation, which in turn meant the winches had limited time on batts alone. Winching the car ‘level’ normally got it going again, however the team only meeting for the first time a couple of days before, I was the only one who knew the car, none of us knew the Baringo terrain meant we came 52nd from 65. 13 Guardposts in 10 hours and it took us 3hrs 15 to get to our first one!

Anyone know how to baffle / swirl pot / put non-return doors in a disco petrol tank????

However it was supposed to be ‘fun’ and that it was! We’ll be back…

(All my pics are too large! I’ll find some smaller ones.)
