Yers, as you all know (ffs I made it plain enough) I have been to the Island of Lurrrve Cyprus, I come back to see you plebs so you can enjoy my jovial company, and I find I have a stiffy, I can get it in, but I have to use a bit of force, and as you chaps know, I don't like to force it, I like it natural, easy, no struggle..... shes an auto (always ready to go... har,har, snort, know what I mean? say no more) do you think she needs a little lube, (I like lube) and what naughty bits should I put lube on?
PS if you need MORE innuendo please **** of, I'm off for a shag now!!

Seriously the lever is stiff, can I use wd40 or grease to lube it, or is it a worn part?

As I said, it [the lever cable] gets stuck in the outer sheath [the sheath of the cable] so a lube should free it up.

Most commonly, the cable gets a bit rusty and snags on the inside of the sheath, a good doseing of WD40 will loosen it off, and then maybe use something like 3 in 1.

Else, replace the cable assembly - but remember it can be a faff getting the cable adjusted afterwards.
 
I think you can get a cable cleaner (for push bikes) I will get some of that I think, thanks
 
You can get a thingy that attaches to control cables for motor bikes and squirt liquid grease into the sheath. Maybe fit your gear cable
 
The problem with all these nylon lined cables is that once water gets between the steel outer cable and the nylon liner, rust sets in and squeezes the nylon sheath onto the cable. If that happens even a forced lube won't solve the problem for long.
Time you've splashed out £20 on a hydraulic cable oiler you could have spent the same on a good used cable.
