Hi i have bought a £1500 freelander 1 facelift which is in actually pretty good shape , i have an issue i need help with though , as you can see i did not pay a lot for it . whether it was a bargain i have no idea as i dont know what they sell for but it seems a fair deal , it has low (87k) miles full service history and th ehead gasket was done in march and i have a pile of reciepts , i dont however have a remote , i have one key which is apparently the newer type one piece and i would like a spare and a remote with the remote first , can i buy one and code it to the car bearing in mind i only have to put the chip in the new/secondhand key or do i need to go to landrover for a remote , i have a very good keycutter locally so i was hoping to have a spare key that didnt start the car and a remote/key as a day to day user until i can get my head together to go to landrover for another one piece key/remote , any help appreciated

hi , i had kinda worked it out , i thought there was a company that did remote one peice using your chassis number and all you had to do was get a your key cut and shift your transponder over but i cant find it or passed it , car is fine needs some bushes or similar as there is a couple of clonks but the car is very clean and straight so i am hoping with little money it will be good ,i would like a set of roofbars as i have some what i think are shortened ones shortened ones but dont want to drill holes and thats about it i think, thanks

Hi mate, I bought a new key from Land Rover last week, it cost me £93 inc. VAT but because the car was 2003> The key came with a chip that needed extra programming for it to work with the car, I believe it would cost around £60 plus VAT to do this (surprisingly this price is competitive with independent auto lock companies).
As for the remote fob Land Rover sell them for around £55 plus VAT and again would charge to programme it to your car, I guess if you bought both from LR they could do it at the same time for hopefully one charge.

the rear wiper arm is broken and i have a new one on order , the washer works but i will need to take the rear wheel off to investigate , so can i ask did i get a bargain or did i pay the right money or god forbid did i pay too much?

Underneath ...has it got both prop shafts with the vcu between them?

Do all the tyres match - same make, type, and have they all got about the same tread wear?

If it has the above then your on a starter for ten;)

Keep an eye on the water and oil levels - I check mine every other day or so and always before and during long trips.

Read up about the one wheel up test and keep on top of your tyre pressures to keep things hunky dory with the drive train - welcome to our hobby:)

Keep it right and it should be a gud un ...fingers crossed ;)

went out and did a quick check as i bought it on a whim and tbh on its looks , all tyres bar one are the same make but the spare matches the other three and is new so i will swap , all propshafts and viscous coupling there i did a gravel test and got four skid marks yesterday and all good , bodywork immaculate , not a mark -nothing apart from the metal(i thought it would be plastic) nudge bar which i will have painted -perhaps body colour , the water level i have already marked with a sharpie and as i have had several mgf,s over the years i know the drill , i also note that the gasket has been done at some cost in march with reciepts and at a reputable garage although it isnt ticking over as it should and its booked in on thursday for a service (it had one 4000 miles agao) and all plugs and leads to be changed as a matter of course , i have sourced as set of roof bars at a local scrappy and am going to paint them myself using a satin black shake can ,the rear wiper is not working and i think the motors gone but once again it will require investigating , all in all i am reasonably happy with no majors and a couple of easy minors , here is hoping and fingers crossed but i must say the facelift and the three door in particular is a good looking car! oh my interior has the heater part of the dash and the vent sorounds in the silver/gold colour of the radio soround and i have never seen that

The phone number for the remote service rings out and they havent answered my two e-mails , there is one in liverpool and its on ebay and they do not answer either so do we know anyone else? i have put the bars on my freelander now and will post a photo , has anyone ever seen a dash with this decoration round the vents and heater controls? it is factory fitted but i have never seen another , was it an option? if so i am surprised it didnt catch on as it looks so much better

I changed the rear wiper motor and all good , i thought about your test idea and as there is a landrover indie a few miles away and it needs a full service i decided to spend some money , there is a reciept for the VCU from last year but it was niggling me and i mentioned it to them , they have carried out a full service today and a checkover and its all good news , no issues whatsoever bar a front anti roll bar bush , great news , they say its as good as they have seen and definately the straightest so i am happy and they havent seen the dash accents either !!
