Hello to you all !
I currently live in Belfast and am seriously thinking about buying a RR P38 to tow a horsebox with two mares on board.
I was recommended this site due to some serious advice been given here, so now I hope someone can help me out if poss.
I was looking at two p38,s one was with legacy motors and the other shiny temptress was with Sterling motors in London.
So I ask you all kindly am I mad in the head ??
Thank you all in advance for any guidance.
Regards,
kilbline

What version of the P38 ?
2.5 DSE / 4.6 petrol ?

Probably wouldn't recommend the diesel with a lot of weight to tow
Have heard how slow they are without the added weight !

hi, were all slightly mad in the head on here ,apparently its a p38 requirement !!!!!!!!! as well as a big bank allowance ???????? But on the good side theres a lot of great lads on here who will help guide you through it all " oh the joys of owning a p38 " yes there is plenty of serious helpful guys and lasses who i know will go out of their way to advise and help you , but be warned they will also take the **** at the 1st hint just to have the craik ,,,anyway welcome and best of luck in your choice , and for my twopennys worth then i would go for late 2001/2 4.6 v8 THOR engine preferbly with top hat liners and lpg these will pull anything about . once again good luck ,,regards MOZZ

Welcome.
I'd agree with mozz. go for the later Thor 4.6, plenty of torquey power to pull a large horsebox & generally much better spec. A top hatted V8 is a very good find indeed as they don't come on the market very often (usually long term keepers once done due to cost).
Are you specifically looking to buy from dealers only, don't discount private sellers - many P38 owners are enthusiasts (well, 'special') & do their own maintanence.

As above from Mozz and Mart, needless to say, beware dealers, my 4.6 block failed in the first week, but with warranty end up with top hatted Thor which has been fault free for nearly 5 years. I'd try a diesel too, a good one 'should' be more reliable than the V8.
