After what feels like the longest 6 months of car ownership I thought I was getting close to the end and getting my lovely D3 back together and on the road. Ha.
Story Time.........
After buying it relatively cheap and fixing the few mechanical problems it had I started to drive it around for a couple of weeks, but soon decided I couldn't cope with the grime and completely stripped it. I am so glad I did. Some of the substances I found under the seats, even under the carpets and behind the trim panels.... ... I started to wonder if it was cheap owing to the fact it was actually used in a murder or something.
and this was where I began to realise I had bought a truly **** car. One that had been getting wet for a long time.
I did some reading up and changed all 4 sun roof drains. Left it in bits for a couple of weeks and everything seemed fine. I spent this 2 weeks cleaning the carpets. In hindsight I wish I had just bought new. The amount of time I have lost.... ergh!
Did the splices.
Anyway. Carpets back in and the car is looking fresh. Ready to start putting the trim panels back on. Although I do need a new headlining. Anyway.
The next morning I come out to a PUDDLE on my nice clean carpet. FUMING.
Sat inside the car for nearly an hour with the hose on full blast the roof and found a single drip at the top of the windscreen, but nowhere near enough to have caused the puddle. Think the drip came in through the roof rails, I've sorted that but still wasn't sure on the puddle.
UNTIL I remembered a job we had done on a Jag where the water was coming in through the pollen filter housing.... BINGO.... took the filter out, pointed the hose that way and clambered into the footwell and sure enough the housing was filling up!
Has anyone come across this leak before and if so, how did you fix it?
and secondly, before I put the car back together is there anything else I can check?
Sorry for the long post. I'm always way too wordy and over-descriptive. Just the way I am.
