Hydrolocked Suspension Compressor

I Just changed the air suspension compressor on my TD5 and there was water dripping out of the air feed intake hose... the other end of which is high behind the rear light cluster...

how did that get in there

I assume the water was responsible for the failure of the compressor in the fist place. I wonder if I run the compressor motor in reverse it may come back to life?

Maybe condensation? ...strange 'cos about 9" further back down the pipe from the intake is an air scrubber

Try and drain the pump and the other bits in the compressor body then try the compressor and put some WD40 in the inlet if it is running,but unless you have being wadding and it has sucked some water in a damaged pipe then there is something not right and it will need looking at asap before the replacement suffers the same problem.

The old unit i'm gonna refurbish on the bench as a spare (if I can) and will look for water damage.
I'm trying to work out how the water got in... The suspension started playing up a couple of weeks ago, although I've been wading recently, thinking about it, the compressor went soon after taking it though the carwash at the BP! I wonder if water got in behind the light cluster or just coincidence??

Still without taking it apart I cant tell if there was enough water in the bore to cause it to stop...or as the mad hatter said, condensation.

you probably know this - the air suspension filter is located behind the left hand light cluster (No. 2 on diagram)- the cluster should be watertight - but it's only a 2 minute job to unscrew the cluster & see if any waters got in through there - worth putting some sealant around the cluster before you replace it just to make sure ? - some of these carwashes can force water in anywhere.

there is also a 'quick release' joint along the pipe ,just above the exhaust (No.3 in diagram) if you've been wading , could any water have got in there ? - try cutting the end of a poly bag & sealing it around the joint if you're going to be wading regularly.
