Hydro-****ed - what happens when you drive through the Spey in spate

If you do end up needing con rods, pistons and or a crank I have all of these (crank has been re-ground) used from an engine that was broken for spares. Plan was to rebuild it but head was cracked and fuel pump was siezed. So I have boxes of spare used parts if you don’t fancy going down the new route.
But I would agree with the above. a Top end rebuild and maybe a piston or two should be all you need.

Nice one mate. I might take you up on that. I was looking at the refurbed parts on turner engineerings website but that would be even better. I’ve had stuff from them before and they’re good. Didn’t particularly like dealing with the company tho, they were a bit odd

It's a small family business and if you visited and saw how a lot of machinery has been perfectly squeezed into a one man space I think you'd be making a diagnosis. He's a perfectionist.

That’s good to hear. Never had an issue with their work. Just had a very odd interaction with a woman, who I assumed was his wife, or one of the managers. Anyhow we’re lucky to have people like that with such skills and experience.

Haven’t posted for ages as me and the landy were getting on swimmingly… until I took it actually swimming by trying to cross the Spey in spate and now I’ve drowned the engine. Excellent work by me.

Engine rebuild time. Which is fine as I was just thinking I had too much time and money on my hands. Not.

Obviously I’ll strip it and survey the damage but so I can start planning and budgeting what normally fails when an engine (200tdi defender) gets hydro locked?
How deep was it then, over the bonnetI presume.

You can see the water level in the lights. Woeful estimation of depth by me. There was a sudden dip that I’d not accounted for/couldn't see.
